Today I melted my fifth spur gear, it wouldn't be bad but i'm sick of pulling the moter to change it. Yea I know check the mesh, or locktight the moter, maybe get a "pro" to look at it. Been there did that! I have four cars/ trucks and the savage ss is my problem child, all my others have been repaired and work fine. I'm a nuke valve R and D tech, one would think I could fix the savage. Any help???

loosen up the slipper a little more next time, I went thru 5 or so spurs on my SS, then I decided to loosen up the slipper a bit more, and I've been runnin the same spur for 3/4 gallons which is damn good compared to a new spur every two runs.

are you melting out the center or just stripping the teeth out,if your melting out the center you need to tighten up the slipper,if you just stripping the teeth then your engine could not be sitting right not only then mesh but the angle make sure its sitting square and not cocked if its cocked then your only going to have a small percerntage of contact area and it will strip very easy,i went through a few gears also now i run a steel gear and no problems now good luck i hope this helps also having the mesh to tight will also make it strip,it will create also of heat and melt,so you might wanna put a peice of paper in the mesh tighten her down then pull out the paper this usally works aloha ,scotty

Man, I just melted the center of my spur gear tonight doing some high speed runs in some deep grass. This is only the first time it happened and I had run 3 gallons of fuel through my .21BB and 1 gallon through my .26. I will have to pick one up and watch my adjustments. Good info guys. Thanks.

My brother and I had the same problem. The only difference is we both have a Savge 25.I replaced the spur gear and did what the manual said.Screw half a turn out.And I have run about a full gallon through it and the spur gear is fine.
