ok so i found my duratrax overdrive st last week. I ran about 15 gallons of fuel through it when I first purchased it about 5 years ago. So it was definitely time to rebuild it but I wasn't crazy about that stupid .17 engine it came with. So I won a megatech m16 on ebay. Put it in and break the thing in ok so now its time to let her rip after about a tank it sounds funny so I shut her down take her temp not overheating about 220 deg. Ok try to start her up again runs for about a half second at a time but still doesn't sound right. I take the head off and there is a massive amount of metal shards in there I'm talking like the entire top of the piston was covered. Ok time to break down the engine take the exhaust pipe off. its filled with oil and metal it looked like that radiator sealant stuff gray thick and a whole lot of metal. I know I wasn't running lean because of the amount of oil that was spitting out of the pipe when I was running her. The sleeve was not damaged or anything with that much metal I would of seen a lot of brass on the sleeve. What could of caused this on a brand new engine. Was it driver error or a defect with the engine and where could all of this metal have come from

I have seen this before, what method of break in did you use? BTW I had a M-16 in a Rustler years ago....It ran great and had plenty of power but no shavings.

I used the break in technic that came with the engine. Run three tanks at no more than half throttle and then start to lean it out over the next couple of tanks. I have used megatech motors before with no problem. With the amount of shavings in this thing there should of been noticeable damage
