Well, thanks to my partner and a fellow forum member (chelsefc385 so i'm told), i have a new "toy", a 1/18 XTM Rage.

I'm still fairly new to all this, so if anyone has advice for add-ons, or hop ups (??) i would greatly appreciate it.

For now though here is a picture, courtesy of my partners photographic skills, of my XTM Rage, better known as "Jenny Rage".

I run an XTM Rage also. It rules!

First things first, change the wheels and tyres back to the stock ones because I've driven that particular Rage (chealseafc385 is my cousin) with those tyres and it was useless off road. You can get two different types. The tread tyres and the pin tyres are a lot better than what you're running at the moment.

You don't need to upgrade the servo because chealseafc385 has changed it to a metal one (I broke mine in the first week).

I would recommend changing the shock oil to the lightest weight you can find, as when I last saw that Rage the suspension had almost locked. If that doesn't work then you need to replace the shocks themselves. That works out at £15.96.

My opinion - don't be fooled by all the aluminium parts out there - all you'll do is break something bigger and/or more expensive.

Best tip I have - stock up on parts. The Rage has an annoying tendency to break.

WRT Hop-ups - use the standard 10WT shock oil if you'll be using it off road and higher (20WT+) for on road. If using for both use 15WT. Don't go brushless - the Rage is too light and doesn't have the handling to deal with it. The tyres are a big thing. If using on road you could probably keep those ones. Off road use the pin types.

Good Luck

The suspension doesn't need to be changed because that Rage is almost brand new. It was the Rage that my dad had and only used it a couple of times, i think it was used like 5 or 6 times. I tried to fix mine but it would have taken too long and i had to send it to Thunder Tiger Eb4 as soon as i got the payment. So, that Rage isnt my one, its not really been used often either.

Now though i have to get mine working so i can sell that too.

Also the wheels wont need to be changed if they are using it for on-road. But i agree, if ofroad then use the stock wheels.

Well i never really did any hop-ups on it, other than replacing the steering servo with a metal one. (they come with plastic stock and the teeth just sheer off).
You could maybe replace the batteries with some that last longer. And you could replace the motor, but I'm not sure how the car would handle with that much power.
Buggington has basically filled you in on what you need to do with the shocks, i never did it though because i wasn't sure of what affects it would have on the car, if any.

How are you getting on with it? As i said that Rage wasn't used much so it shouldnt have any problems at all.

Sorry, chelsea. Thought you'd sold your old one - what are you doing with that by the way?

The car probably wouldn't be able to handle a brushless - too light. It's fine as it is for me...for now! If not, just gear it up (change spur & pinion gear).

I have looked for batteries which last longer, but I couldn't find any which would fit - you got any ideas chelsea?

One (of the many) things I would say is if you keep it in a bag/carrying case look after the antenna if you have to take it down. I haven't and the wire is starting to get stripped (see attached pic). You have to buy a new reciever and I'm not sure where I would find one.

Another (of the many) things I have to say is stock up on parts. As that Rage hasn't been used much it probably won't need any major parts replaced but if you are planning on using it on a rough track I wouldn't go mad cos bits like the knuckles (see attached pic if you dunno what they are) will break, ball joints (again, see attached pic if you dunno what they are) will pop out & eventually wear out. Whatever surface you drive on, the odds are you'll eventually roll the thing, so keep a couple of antenna tubes ready, just incase. I've have 2 snap in one day so it's worthwhile. They're only 50p anyway. Eventually the motor mount will wear out and while it's only £1.50 it's a real pain to replace - I've still got to find an allen key small enough.

Good Luck with Jenny

I'm gonna fix it, then sell it. Know anyone who may want it?

The car probably wouldnt be able to hold a brushless, it would probably be too powerful. But you could always try and get a less turn motor, just to make it a bit faster, but not stupidly fast.

Make sure that you stock up on parts, i have a whole toolbox full of parts for them, since they come in a pack with other parts with them, i have lots that i havnt used.

The spur shouldnt strip, i set it up so that it shouldnt, but with the Rage the spur can be worn easily. You shouldnt have to worry about it though, like i said, i have set it up and it seemed pretty smooth to me.

I'm not sure whether you could just buy a battery and then solder on a new adapter so that it will be connectable to the Rage. Ill ask next time i got to my LHS.

ENJOY! :)

hey, any spare parts you've got - I'll buy them off you! Family & friends discount though please!

I've only got a couple of gouge marks in my spur gear after 6 months of use and abuse, so they aren't that bad. Did you only go through one pinion gear in the whole time?

First though i need to get my Rage running again, after that ill see what i have left. Thats if i decide not to sell them with the car.

You dont need to pay the postage really.

Anyway back on subject, Maybe you could replace the transmitter and reciever so that you can get better range from it. The stock range is ok but you can get some recievers and transmitters, that will let you drive your car further than you can see.

Yay! More radiation :\
Do you know if you have to upgrade both parts or just the reciever.

Both for them to work in unison (not sure if thats spelt right, or the right word for the sentence. Just seemed like it worked)

It is pretty cheap make it higher range. I changed mine on the TT01, i can get right down to the bottom of my drive when I'm stood at the top, and it would still go further. And it only costed £30.
