I've decided on an MBX5.. not the prospec cause its too heavy for my likeing.. so what is you oppinions on this buggy? :boxing:

Heavy? How do you figure?I have the MBX5 and am planning on upgrading it close to the Prospec? Shock towers, braces and engine mount. I Love this buggy!

I can't see the Prospec weighing any more than a reg X5! Maybe a hair or 2 at most.

If you want a fully optioned and the Lightest buggy out there grab you one of the XRAY XB8's---this buggy is bad Azzzz

A friend of mine has a reg. MBX-5, and just told me that he had a radio glitch, and went WOT 400+ ft into a wood shed. Busted the shed. Buggy came out unscathed. My Prospec is only 5, or 6 tanks old, and it is awsome. Either way, reg, or Prospec, I think you will be happy.

I'm not saying it is I'm just lookin at it and i just dont like it to much i like the smaller parts cause its more comfort to me cause I'm a weight freak when it comes to any racing cause weight makes all the difference.. acceleration.. handleing.. lighter cars dont have as much weight shifting

I want the Prospec towers as they are beefier than the reg ones. I bash so I want durability. My PCR has them and they are strong. The storm is out of commision till I get a rear diff case and either universals . Luckily I have a set of stock towers but I am hoping I will find some thicker ones.

The bling I see in the prospec parts I want are more for durability. Others may see it different as stated above.

I'm with you Jon, the Prospec parts are nice & beefy... I just received my Prospec "Optional" hop-ups for a little more beef... lol You heard right, there's more hop-ups to add to the already hopped up Prospec version.... lol When will the madness stop.... lol I'll tell ya what though, even the standard version of the MBX5 looks to be alot beefier than the XB8's.... :devious: lol

Where are all the XB8 owners? Fast Eddy.. CorradoPsi? You two are the ones I keep reading about. Lol

IMO the MBX5 is a great platform but every car can be made better.

I have seen a few different makers come out with shock towers for the MBX5 so who knows but I am wanting beefier ones!!

my xb8 holds up just fine. including my 30+ mph unintended exits from the track. i dont know about you, but i want a race car, not a tank i can drop off a bridge. ill keep my lightweight buggy thanks :boxing:

I assure you, I speak only in jest... lol Hell, I havent even run my Prospec yet... In the Spring I'll make sure I get up to Pa, just to bury your Xray.... lol

:boxing:

Damn it I want to see that happen man! If I were to get another buggy it would be either the K3 or the XB8

To me the must have Prospec parts are the chasis braces, and shock towers. You throw in the rear hubs, one piece engine mount.... And you've got one hell of a buggy. It is a dream to drive compared to the Lightning Pro 2. Which is the only other buggy I have enough time driving to coment. Tower Hobbies claims the Prospec to weigh in at 7.5 lbs (3400g), and the Lightning Pro 2 to be less at 7.2 lbs (3275g) So, weight isn't everthing IMO. It is how it is distributed.

i assure you, i speak in jest 99% of the time. can't wait till spring gets here, this getting cold stuff sucks. you will definately have to make it to Pa to back up that threat though :devious:

You guys are actually quite funny :))))))))) if you were racing on road then i would tend to agree with the weight thing, but off road hahahahahahahahaha the difference in weight is f all, a heavier car has it advantages on off road i:e you dont bounce as bad over bumps you dont jump as far meaning that your wheels are back on the track quicker to accellerate, and you get better bite in the corners, lighter car accelerates quicker but you fall of corners at 30mph all the time :) sorry corado,
the reason the prospec is better than the standard is

If you want to be replacing parts all the time buy the standard its not strong enough but the prospec is, yes there is some bling in the prospec but there is also quite a list of iof poop this breaks replacment parts :)))))))))))))

no harm done. i dont race at tracks that have 30mph sweepers. US tracks are typically more technical than that. more jumps and switchbacks.

Speek for yourself. The track I practice on has a 30 MPH corner.

Hey Mike, what are you doing talking in MPH? Trying to make it easy on us americans?

Well, I wrecked the $hit out of the Prospec for the first time. Went to run a tank or two befor dark Sun. night, and got lazy. Didn't push the yard roller off the track very far, and smacked it doing about 40. Busted all kinds of crap. About $125 worth since some of the parts were Prospec parts. Parts should be here the 30th, so I'll be driving the lightning again this week. Just though I would share.

Pics speak a thousand words.. plus the ones you would write describing all the damaged parts

Sorry no pics availible, but I 90% or so about ripped off the whole front left suspension. Stripped out the screw whole that attatches the back hinge piin holder to the front diff case. Busted the little tabs of the back hinge pin holder that go threw the chasis. Ruined some bushings that go in the front Allum. hinge pin holder, along with snapping the head off the lower hinge pin itself. Snapped the titanium steering rod. And last but not least, broke my shock. It was an ugly site, and I'm over it now, but I was not happy at the moment. Didn't even stop to look for missing parts, except the spring.

Oh yeah, how could I forget, broke the front upper a arm.
