OMG!
I was just listening to the Mayor of New O on the radio.
This guy was PISSED OFF! I have never heard a politician cussing like a drunk sailor on the radio. This dude was on a rant like I have never heard before. He said " I don't give a poop if people don't like my language, I'm not running for re-election, I'm trying to get some fiddlesticking poop done around here holy moly It!"

Kudos for this guy! I hope he gets the help he needs.

WOW now I bet he comes back with an apology within the weekend.

Can't say I don't agree, but i bet he apologizes.

I've been asked a few times if I wanted to go as a law enforcement officer, I'm considering going, but leaving the baby and wife behind is tough. The wife isn't too thrilled about me going down there either. I guess time will tell, but its not a very pretty site.

The odd thing is, I have held some reservations that he himself is partially to blame for this disaster. I feel not enough was done in the 2 days before the hurricane struck when they knew it was over a CAT 3 (the largest hurricane yet to hit, and the design limit of the levee), to do more to prepare and even evacuate the most vulnerable.

I heard an interview with him earlier on FOX news, and he is definately very pro-active about recovery. At least he is not sitting on the sides on this one!

I just heard that 25% of all the cops turned in their badges and got the hell out of Dodge.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - More than four days after Hurricane Katrina struck, the National Guard arrived in force Friday with food, water and weapons, churning through the floodwaters in a vast truck convoy that was met with both catcalls and cries of ``Thank you, Jesus!'' from the suffering multitudes

More than 4 days after???? What the hell have they been doing for the last 4 days???? Do the politicians think it is going to go away by itself? The mayor is a idiot for not ranting and raving before now!

that dude is under some serious stress....of course. Its even more worse down there than most people realize.

Here's one from Bush. From msn. (Am I allowed to post this?) Whole story. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9157866/
“This is a storm that requires immediate action, now,” the president said after a daylong tour of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. “I understand the devastation requires more than one day’s attention. It’s going to require the attention of this country for a long period of time.”
Required immediate action some time ago Mr. Bush! Where tha fu.... have you been???

He has been ranting and raving for days.
Right after the wind died down, he was asking for help.
I heard it on CNN.

i heard the interview, wow weather he was right or not, an official and a represenative. shame on him. The thing thats funny is they all did know what was comming, why did they not choose to leave? Alot of people did get out. What i get a kick out of is the leuters, why are these people breaking in to steel a huge tv. Where they going to go with it. I can see going for food for your children but come on know tvs, shoes. Give me a break. Start shooting, we are trying to help and you shoot at us.

That city has a large poor population.
They might not have known that it was coming, or had no money to leave.
Bus tickets and hotels cost money.
Should they be shooting at the people trying to help them?
NO.

One of the Mayors concerns is the drug addicts not being able to get a fix. At first I thought WTF is worrying about this for but now I understand. There are many thousands of Jonesing people out there if not more. They have no way to stay rational much less try to make a plan as to how to get out. Its just another issue to put into the mix of mounting problems.

I never thought about that. That explains a lot. But thats their own fault they chose that way of life. Also shows just how bad drugs really are in the states.

This is crazy! The total of dead will be unbelievable.

Everyone knew what was coming but they underestimated it. Thousands of poor people found a way to leave the city before it was to late, I know because I talked to many of them today. Most (not all) of these people that are stuck won't admit it, but they chose to stay..Hell there are still people today that refuse to leave there homes, they came outside got something to eat and drink and went back home....WTF? Another thing to consider is that New Orleans is not the only place that has people that are stranded. All of the surrounding area's are in the same condition but for some reason they don't show that on TV. The thing is people aren't shooting at the rescue teams in other areas so they are getting help before NO. No one deserves to go through what they are going through but you can't put all the blame on the Government, After all they were asked to leave but they refused. Then they were told they had to leave but did not.

On a better note I would like to say that I'm very proud of the small town I'm from. We have a lot of people here with no place to go and know way to get there but we are doing everything we can to help them. We have a community center in town and state park just outside of town that are overflowing with people. Every day some one is cooking three meals a day in the state park and at our community center. The donations of simple thing like toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, razors are what is asked for the most, and they are very appreciative to get them. I'm also very proud of this country...I herd that almost two hundred million dollars has been donated to the Red Cross...Amazing!

Man I wouldnt take that note on this issue. I know people who had money, who had cars, and who had a way out that couldn't get out. Roads were blocked or destroyed. Gas was the first thing to go (parden the pun) Down the drain. You never know what someone will do, how they will react to a situation untill you stick it right there on thier plate and let em run with it. Yes, some people acted like complete morons, But if you had were in the situation your thoughs would be a little SNAFU'ed as well. And like you pointed out, i would like to ackowledge the fact that people (unlike many OTHER times in history) are finnaly extending a very much needed helping hand to save lives- To help people. My family and I just gave a man and his daughter a place to stay. Radio stations across the country are raising money, as well as food and nes. items to support. The Red Cross is out in full force. As for the National Guard, I'm not gonna dogg em', but arent most of em in the reserves or someting? Doesn't it take a few days to get em all rallied up and ready to work?? Granted something should have been done before this occoured. I watched a news brief last night wherin a man said "We evaluated the "Cost to Benifit ratio" and decided against spending the money for stronger levves" Pardon my language, but it is those insolent dumbasses who need to be roasted. I believe that in order to find what truly drives a person you have to see them in an extrodinary situation- Well, this is that moment. Strangely enough I think the outcome was not NEARLY as bad as it could have been. New Orleans will never be the same.

Ok... I'm done ranting.

There was plenty of time to get out. The people that got on the road and stuck it out were not caught in this mess. Others were not willing to sit in the cluster$^*&ed traffic. It took someone 15 hours to get to were I am when it usually takes 3 but there are OK right now because they went though the trouble. With the exception of hospitals, nursing homes and such they should have left. :2cents:

A lot of people could not get out. Many had no car or non-reliable cars for a journey like that. 15 hours in an old car that most likely would have overheated and left them stranded on the highway someplace is not a viable option either. The cost of fuel as well as availability of fuel also made it hard for some to leave. Many people had no option other than to stick it out.

Smaxxin, you also mentioned other areas were effected, yes you are correct, but are those other areas under 10 - 15 feet of water? No! Mississippi is not, the panhandle is not, Alabama is not. That fact alone makes the situation in N.O. that much worse. You can not even begin to start the recovery process with the entire city submerged. At least the other hard hit areas are dry for the most part and can begin their recovery process. It is much easier to get supplies and aid to the cities that are not under water.

As far as people shooting at those trying to help them, well that has got to be the absolute most assinine thing anyone can do. Those few assholes are making it even more miserable for the honest people that are suffering and in dier need of help. If I was there and saw someone shoot at help I would shove that gun so far up there ass a proctologist would not even be able to find it!

There a lot of people that had no car but still got out. As I said before most (not all) wanted to stay, and there are some that still refuse to leave. The truth is even after they were told NO would be flooded they didn't think it would really happen. The ones I really feel sorry for are the children that had no choice.

The other areas I'm talking about are also in Louisiana and yes there are under deep water. There are some places that rescue workers could not reach until Friday.
