OK i just got my new mayhem yesterday in the mail. So today Me and buggyracer28 are breaking it in right and it freaking is running at 105 degrees. We temped it after every tank and the highest temp we got was 120*... (the temp gun is perfect, it works on his buggy perfectly and has been since he got his x-term) We ran 7 tanks through and it is gargling when we punch the throttle slightly. Geze how retarded. Do any of you guys that have mayhems experience these problems when u broke yours in? If you did what did you do to fix them? is it normal? Well thanks for all of the help please tell me if you have anything that can help. It might be the plug (I'm using the one that it came with) it also can be an air leak (un-likely since its a brand new engine)........................................................... :) :cheers: :)
 
You didn't say how you're breaking it in BUT if it's gurgling when you "punch it" the LSN is too rich. That may also be the source of low temps as well. If you had an air leak, your temps would be skyrocketting in a heartbeat.
 
Ok, thanks for the info. I was going to do the heat cycle method, but as you can see, its not posible :hammer: so we are just leaning it out each time. But, by the 7th tank the temps should be around 200*+.
 
You just need to lean it out more. Do the temps rise when you lean it? They should...
 
Nope, we leaned both needles out about 2 turns and it gained like 5 degrees which is stupid.
 
YOu're going to find that the Sportwerks .26 the way it's set up runs a bit cool. But you should have no problem leaning it down. I was worried when I was breaking mine in because it just didn't seem to want to get hot. But I followed the procedure until it was done and then leaned some more. All I'll say is that it makes insane power even at 240. I was absolutely amazed that it could run so cool and still freaking fly. Just give it a few more tanks and lean it a tad and you'll see what I mean.
 
every mayhem I have had a hand in breaking in,5 to be exact, did exactly as you described. I ended up leaning the bottom end something like 4 and a half turns to get any temp at all and still was a little rich when guaged by the pinch test. the stock settings are insanely rich just lean it more and you will see it come to life. BOOYA :fro:
 
I broke in a Mayhem earlier this week with a friend, and worked like a dream. But the book settings were way, way too rich. Once I finally convinced my buddy to trust the pinch test and his temp gauge, instead of the factory settings in the instructions, we were heat cycling with the engine holding 200 no problem. I noticed about a 10 degree difference between a full tank and a mostly empty one (before the lean spike at the end) due to the pressure difference.
 
What kind of temp guns are you using? I wrap a towel around the head with electric tape, that way I can run it very rich, yet get it to 200-220 degrees. Be careful, those little $35. temp guns are junk and can be as far off as 50 degrees!
