Since I had this thing there have been minor issues with the electronics. Before I put it away a year and a half ago I knew the range was seriously crappy. (50ft maybe)

So finally this year I purchased a Futaba 3pm tx/rx. Put that in and the range is back to normal but I'm still getting gremlins that end up letting my rig run wot on its own. I've been lucky since my engine is still running strong and nothing has broken due to this but it has made me re-think the "wait untill it breaks then replace it with something better" route i've been running so far.

*stuff that has been replaced or on its way*
os .18tm installed when I first got it - done
Full cvd shaft setup - done
Tx/Rx - replaced due to range issue - fixed the problem - done
Entire new battery holder/switch - should fix any issues with wiring or bad connections if there are any - on its way
upgrading to a 6v hump over the 4.8 (4 AA's) pack thats in there now - on its way
rpm a-arms for the front - on its way
rpm shock towers front and back - on its way
kimbrough spur gear - on its way (thinking about the rrp slipper plate setup)
DuraTrax Micro Fail Safe Unit (I do have the venom one which was fine until it got knocked loose and now the screen doesn't work. not sure if I should trust it anymore) - on its way

I do have alum. bulkheads for the front but there is a broken screw it it now and so far the stock ones have held up ok.
Also thinking about going rpm rims with some bowties around them.

Any other suggestions for upgrades to make this thing a worthy basher? Am I missing anything?

You are on your way with your list my suggestions would have been....
1. Hump pack And TX batterys
2. New fail safe
3. Prolly a new TX/RX

So you should be ok. IMO.

Thats another thing I'm thinking of getting is a batt pack for the tx instead of just having the aa's in there. All the rest is either in already or coming so should be all good. Hopefully.
