When I first got my T-maxx i broke the truck in correctly on 20% nitro. I tuned it a little lean and got (most) of the bugs out of it. So after a few months of running it and getting used to the truck( no serious performance mods by the way) the truck didn't seem like it was doing 40 MPH at all. Maybe 25 or 30. But not 40. So me and my friend had the nerve to ask a cop parked at the side of the road to radar our trucks at top end. They laughed at us. But I'm still curious. Does traxxas tune their truck perfectly and then take down its top speed? As a matter of fact, my friends savage SS doesn't look like it even does 30MPH. So is it just me or are these trucks really not as fast as they say?

Gauging speed by your eyes alone is hard. A radar gun is the way to do it. I can say that yes they did tune their maxx as good as they probably could that day when they do the speed test. I even would go as far to say they had it tuned a little lean and were proably using %30 fuel. My first question when I first got into RC's probably just like everyone here was "how fast does that go?" As you progress the top speed question goes away. My Maxx easily does 45mph or better but it is almost 3lbs lighter than stock with a after market Sirio engine.

but is has acceleration like a mofo and that's what I wanted.

Vince - Like Humbolt is saying....it's all relative. I know for a fact that a T-maxx can do 40+ MPH @ Sea Level with the stock gearing that's geaered for top end speed. This was waith 20% Nitro too. The 2.5 can be a tunning nightmare and not wanna EVER hold a tune. If your @ sea level and the engine is properly tuned (actually a little more lean then normal for the top end test) then you can hit 40mph.

HUmbolt Says "has acceleration like a mofo"...that's my kind of truck.
