Just got in the new cooling head. She is pretty sweet. Massive head yet doesn't weigh too much. Scooped her up from www.acncm.com for only $35. She is supposed to cool you down about 50 degrees. We will see.

Here are a couple of pics:

Stock head weighed in @ 45.5g
ACNCM Enormous head @ 85g
Golden Horizons head @ 69.2g

What is everybody else running with?

i run that one youll be very happy with it. Your goin to get MUCH cooler temps

Damn that looks like a nice solid cooling head. Should serve you very well and lower those temps down to a managable level.

wow, that thing is big. the only thing i would worry about is if ur running it on a t-maxx is ripping it off or something. For $35 that is a great deal. makes the stock cooling head look dinky.

later

Well actually it is very sturdy because i had a very hard impact straight on the head luckily i had a coule of zip ties on the head but the head has some very small scratches on it but nothing big at all but its so sturdy it ripped the mounts screws right out of the engne mount

i got the Golden Horizons head. it does a good job. That thing is what i think i need though. My glow plug will go out some times from going up hills some times. I noticed that the chance of it happining with the Golden Horizons head on made it decress (spelling) nice head

Man, I'd be scared to run a cooling head that big.
How much did you have to lean out the engine to run with that head?

Gill you dont' lena an engine just because you added a head. The engine still needs oil to be lubed properly. Thats why tuning with temp is bad, its very misleading. Also if your engine gets too cold, you can damage it early since its not expanding the sleeve properly. I personaly run a Nova head but wow, that thing may be too big to use lol.

i didn have to lean it much because i wa running around 260+ b4 i got it now i running around 200 +/- 10 degrees and it has great performance at those temps

I have a GH cooling head and am cosidering getting another maybe the ACNCM. This is on my MGT. The MAXX has a mutant head and I run cooler as well. I have noticeds that I had to lean out the HSN AND the LSN. My temps are in the 210 and 220's. And I still have a little more to go for more speed.

i have on order the rc-solutions roll cage. i wonder if this cooling head will fit in with that cage. anyone know?

I guess what I am wondering about these heads.

In order to get prime power out of my trx .15 it wants to run at near 300. It has a steady trail of smoke, but that's way too hot for me.

So I put on one of these heads, and lean it out to around the same settings that gave me 300deg before (with a head it would probably be 250).

So what's the engine longevity factor, Running at 300 deg, or running lean at 250 without enough lube?

Or do you guys that run these heads run with 14-16% oil or better to make sure your getting plenty of lube at those leaned out settings?

See what I mean. Knowing my luck I'd be running 210-220 happy as a clam. Then I would loose a piston/sleeve do to not enough lube.

This is my understanding on switching cooling heads, but I may be wrong.

You shouldn't use a cooling head to mask the signs of an overlean tuned motor. The idea is to tune your motor with the stock head. Once you do that, then you simply exchange the cooling head for the new one.

For example, your motor (properly tuned) runs @ 250 degrees. You switch out heads & your motor will be running @ 200 degrees.

Benefit:
---You are getting the same horsepower out of your motor, but you are running at cooler temps. Cooler temps help prolong the life your motor.

You shouldn't readjust your settings or switch oil % to compensate for the head.

You should tune your truck by sound and trail of smoke. As long as it has a steady stream of smoke you will be ok. Don't think you can put an aftermarket head on and then lean the heck out of it just because you are running 200 degrees now. Don't put an aftermarket cooling head on a motor to help a bad tuning problem.
