OK so I have been out of the game for about 2 years and looking to possibly get back into it. I have been checking out the new buggies and it seems I hear a lot of good about the Losi buggy but dont hear hardly anything about the Magic M1. Anyone have any thoughts on it? Looks like a bunch of interesting ideas but how does it preform on the track?

Ok, I've seen one (that's it) locally and it was rather lackluster. The guy that owns it is a pretty good driver and with the right machine he's more than capable than making the upper mains at big races. However he appeared to struggle with it and add to that support is not too widely spread it just makes everyone around want to look at others. Where are you located? Around here it's either the 8ight or the Mugen MBX5R.

my advice is to pick up a buggy that you can get parts support for. If your location is anything like mine, there is no support unless you want to run a raze (thank you htusa for nothing).

I'm in Dallas/Fort Worth TX and I'm going to go hit up hobby shops tomorrow and see what the guys around are selling these days. I suspect they are still pushing Mugens along with associated and losi stuff. I like the MBX5R but and the 8ight but I'm just looking at all my options.

Thanks for the heads up Jet.

I spent a lot of time in Dallas babysitting an airplane two summers ago and Xray was pretty big there. Mostly due in fact to RC America being right there I think. Before SRH closed in Richardson they had a huge Xray following and all the support too.

Yeah i dont remember seeing any Xrays when I was racing but they may not have been too popular back then. The do look like some interesting buggies though.

I had one before I bought my 5R. The thing is awesome in quality and performance it just didn't fit my driving style all to well.

Yeah I'm kind of leaning to the 5R myself. Good reliable buggy all around from what I can tell. Only thing is I like to race on a sprint car track up here as well. I would like to find a buggy that would be competative on both a sprint car track and a traditional offroad track. The kanaii II I had was real good at that. Just kept a spare set of parts like shocks already filled with oil for the other track in my box and setup sheets so I can easily go back and forth.

I love my 5R. I have a pretty agressive driving style and the Mugen rewards you for pushing it hard. The Xray and the Losi are faster the nicer you are too them. I've never owned nor have I driven a Kyosho though I know several that have/had them. I do know two guys that had Kyosho deals and left them for the Losi and no deal!

I got one.

It is a fantastic drive, grip levels are superb, handing is very very good and some very neat ideas, a little thoughtful effort in setup works wonders BUT there have been some "new car" issues, IMO less issues than Xray and Losi had with theirs though. For a 1st effort at a buggy TM have built a great machine.

The diffs are a pain to get to stay together (they are 3 piece diffs) and it is still very much in development, you get a "spares package" with it to replace certain redesigned parts as well.

I have handed it to a lot of other people at my track and all have been complimentary about it once they have driven it. If you can get spares and want to be a little different then get one. If you want a proven but unimaginative choice then get an MBXR, these are superb and proven.

Yeah my friend also had the Team Magic and he said it was a real pain to work on, you can't adjust brake bias, and parts were not easy to get. I like Team Magic products, but this is their first buggy and they tried a little to hard to make it modern versus practical.

I think sometimes when manufacturers try to be on the leading edge they get to far out. TM had some good ideas and intentions but I think it may have been too much for a first effort. Given time I think they'll be a player.

You can now, there is an option part for a couple of £.

I agree entirely with this. It isn't actually any more difficult to work on, its just a different sort of build. If they had kept a couple of things back for the MKII it would have been perfect.

I saw one go for $99 at a LHS. I think they can be had for about $125 + $40 for the TM drawers, you still come out ahead.
