My M41 motor died today. Digging in I see lots of trash and a broken magnet… new one on order. Is this common? Maybe 8 runs on my boat with added cooling.

I would say you overheated it also. Very hot actually.
It's always good to have a temp gun with you when running. It will save you from having to buy another motor.

when I see the pictures all I see is overheating bigtime.
Agree.. I do have a pump and watching the temp the motor is always cool to the touch as compared to before the pump add. Perhaps damage was early on.. and last couple of runs did it in.

I do not run pumps in my boats, but do use dual pick rudder to separately cool motor and ESC.
My motors run very warm - can touch them without burning - but boats can run hot.
One thing to keep an eye on is the water lines - you can pick up some debris that will clog them - weeds, sands, algae.
I check the water lines with each battery change - it is quick to blow them out.

my 3 boats that are on 4 cells never run even warm..dont run or need 6+ cells
