hey just wondering if any one has done this combo

lrp zr.30x bump start motor with the traxxas bb mount kit

i have 2 platinum's so it being a bump start motor is fine by me i just want to make sure it will fit and i can still bump start it!!

thanks!!

Well it will run as fast and hard as the driveline will allow it. But probably you would rip out everything that is not very upgraded. That engine would be a tad bit VERY overkill on a Revo.....kinda like dropping a nuke on your lawn to kill a gopher.

that's about my style

like putting a big block chev with a blower in a fiero there's no point to it but dang its a lot of fun

but back on point i never asked what it would brake just if it would all fight right and if i would be able to start it with my starter box

now if i could just do a side pipe that i dont have to cut 1/2 the side of the body off that would be even better

You'd be much better off getting a race .21 (big block). That's my next revo project. A modded .21 will rev well over 40,000 rpm. You'll have plenty of USEABLE torque, and enough hp/rpm to leave that .30 in the dust. About 25% faster with the same gears!

ok first question what .21 would you recommend for under 200 that i can get the zr.30x for and next is it really fair to compare them with the same gearing the .30 should have a lot more torque then the .21 so they really should not run the same gearing should they?

A good race .21 is gonna cost more, I haven't checked yet but I know they will be more.

As for gearing I was just trying to show you how important rpm's are in choosing an engine. A big block like the zr30 will need at least a 18 tooth clutch bell and 36 tooth spur combo to be drive-able. Anything less and it's not even going to be fun lol.

I just noticed the zr30 runs about 33,000 rpm. The zr30x runs about 38,000 rpm. Either one is going to be a serious torque monster.

i can also get my hands on an ab mods z.28r bump start motor or was thinking about getting a zr.30x from ab mods with his race mod done to it

and i understand rpm's but there is more to it then just rpm i am a drag racer i get torque rpms and hp but as i said gearing a lower rpm motor with a tun of torque is not the same as gearing a high rpm motor with less torque

Yeah you are part correct....in nitro engines you normally only have one or two gears with most vehicles. The amount of torque put out by the .30 would be mostly wasted in backflips. In a 1:1 car you have multiple gears to be able to use the massive torque put out by a huge engine. Example....I had a Jammin X2 buggy. I put a LRP .28 in it. Damn that sucker would just rip holes in the ground.....in club races I would get spanked by .21s pretty often. They would always walk away from me on the straights because of higher RPM engines. I geared up higher to "try" and make up for it.....just not the same. I tossed in a nice hot OS .21.....it was game on. I had a faster buggy than with the .28. Point is bigger is only better to a certain point. This is the OS V-Spec engine I used.....for the money it is screaming fast.

i can see that to a point but what about if your track was super tight ad did not have a long strait the that low end torque would be better to get you out of the corners

and on the 1:1 thing you are not 100% right there a powerglid his 2 speed top fuel car have 1 speed

http://www.youtube.com/user/MikePeperni#p/a/u/0/lSunQYxlEvs yes i know this is set up on road and not the same but a .28 doing 75 mph in a revo thats moving pretty good

Even on a tight track I was losing traction because of too much torque. Torque only gets you so far in the nitro world, you must have a balance of torque and RPM if you want top end speed and linear performance. If not you have a light switch and it is not as controlable. But hey....all good this is your truck....you wanna go crazy with it....the LRP will do it. You want damn fun AND drivable....a smaller big block WILL be better.

so then whats the best in the middle engine .23 .26 .28?

That is the bad thing I have noticed there is not a ton of really good in the middle big blocks....seems it goes from .21 straight to .28. However give this a look..... DX-523 Hellfire.....or you could go with LRP .28 and it would still be over kill..lol. There are a lot more .28s out there than mid (.23-.27) engines

hhhmm thats interesting!!! i can get a smoking deal on a lrp .28 modded bump start also i am going to have to look in to that some more i did not know eb mods was still around

it's a hard question to answer. you can always get the .30 and use restrictors to hold back the power. Having a big engine is cool, I get that part. But with RC's has light as these, all that power won't make it to the ground, even with the right choise of tire. Less is more in this case.

you can also mess with throttle mixing so all that power is held back until you really need it. Buying a smaller engine reduces weight and also helps keep the power band in the range most people find useful.

go big or go home and there is more then just idle and wot? LOL jk i get what you guys are saying i think i am going to go with the modded lrp .28 i can get and see how that goes if nothing else i can a sell the motor b sell the truck c buy the .30 for the price my buddy offered me this motor for i almost can't pass it up

i just got off the phone with rb mods and after talking with him he claims a modded rb tm523 would be the best way to go and would also spin 50k rpm what do you all think about this engine?

I don't know about 50k, but yes it's a nice engine. Since you're draggin, you could use the .30 with a center diff and a high gear. Put some really stiff oil in the diff and it should launch hard with no wheelie. Once it gets moving the tall gear would cash in on the engine's torque to move it down the track. I must have missed or forgotten the whole drag racing part of it.

What I meant by the same gearing thing was that a high reving engine would be much faster (up top) than a low reving engine if you were to use the same gears for comparison. It's pretty simple really. With the same gears, a 30,000 rpm engine would be 25% slower than a 40,000 rpm engine.

ok so an update i got a lrp z.28r bump start motor brand new!! it has modded by ab mods! also i have a coupe parts truck coming with picco .26 maxx motors. I well be doing a build log as i go!
