loss of power in 2nd gear

ok, the current issue I've faced is the engine cutting out in 2nd gear at WOT. It acts as its lean and dies in high rpms but only in 2nd gear. If I keep it at high rpms in 1st, it doesn't cut out on me or seem to loose any power. So, what could it be? The engine is sealed, it was tuned a little rich, and the temps are from 280 to 300.

See, I thought that too...but all the way through 1st it's blowing plenty of smoke. But, in second, it blows smoke until it reaches its maximum rpms. Why would it lean out in 2nd but not in 1st?
