Haven’t even gotten my Losi nascar in the mail yet but I’ve already got upgrades on order. As I said before, I will make this thing crazy fast in Cleetus’s honor lol.
Quite the list on order but can’t wait to work on it. Will be going to the freedom factory in April for the freedom 500. Maybe I’ll get lucky enough to get Cleetus himself to sign it!
Shooting for 85-100mph build. Probably will never actually run it at that speed but that’s the end goal😀

The most important variable with these is the ackerman linkages and designed basher slop in the steering assembly. Adding a gyro will certainly help to a certain extent, but at high speeds it's going to essentially become a straight axle death wobble. The pin diameter acting as link "posts" needs to be tightened up with a sleeve or at least the proper diameter through the top plate into the chassis to minimize axial and radial play.

Check out DoRC, he recently had the same ideas and hit that bottleneck... Obviously that body will need some aerodynamic help underneath...

I appreciate all the tips!

Realistically I’m building this to haul ass just because it’s the Cleetus McFarland body. It will never actually be used for any speed runs of any sort. I may not even bash it. Just wanna build it up and attempt to have Cleetus himself autograph it when I go to the freedom 500. It will more than likely sit on the shelf it’s whole life.

I have installed the Exotek bellcrank on my Typhon GROM speed run car and it is very rigid, virtually no slop. I've only heard bad things about any other bell cranks.

Losi makes an alumnimum "TLR" 203.5mm hex driveshaft. Just an FYI in case you can find it cheaper than the Exotek option.

Losi also makes a spring set for the NASCARs however everyone says the weight ratings are all wrong, and most of them are softer than stock I think. I have used these Nexx shocks on my speed run Typhon GROM. I wish the springs were a bit more firm but otherwise they are nice.

You might want to grab the Typhon adjustable steering links. If you stay solid but want to go aluminum, maybe grab the ones from Injora for around $10. I have tried the Hot Racing solid steering links - big waste of money at $20 (wish I had shopped around!).

if you struggle to get the speeds you want and need to go crazy with gearing - Arrma makes a 31t MOD.5 pinion with a 3.175mm bore for their GROMs, and "LSG" sells a 44t and 48T spur gear for GROMs. I have the 44T spur but have yet to try it out, so cannot comment on the quality. You're probably better off swapping in a motor faster than the stock BLX groms (2838 4500kv) if you want to reach 100mph.

Good luck, and please share your progress of this build!

Great point, these aren't terribly aligned from the factory but it's nice to have a little adjustability.

Considering the little bit I've driven mine, I would recommend doing all of the steering upgrades and adding some thicker shock oil before bolting in power.
Exotek steering bellcrank on order. Also have an aluminum servo mount, NSDRC RS100 servo, hot racing servo saver all coming. So the steering should be dialed once everything is installed.
