Will it cause your spurr teeth to break off if you mesh is perfect? I have broken 3 spurrs in a row and dont know if its because my spurr is loose. I'm racken my brain to figure out the problem before I replace my whole tranny.

2 ideas

2 ideas for you:

1) Replace both the spur gear & the clutch bell gear with the hardened steel gears from robinson. However, you will still have to properly align them.

2) When aligning the plastic gears, leave the motor screws loose, take a piece of plastic (typically from an RC parts bag (screws, etc.) and put it between the spur & clutch bell gears. Then push the motor tight & tighten the screws. Now back the plastic out from between the gears. You should have just a slight (small) play between the two gears. This is about the perfect setting for the gears.

Good luck!

Mesh is perfect as I have a little play but not too much and the clutch bell is squared to the spurr. I just recently put a new spurr and clutch bell. There is "play" in the shaft that holds the slipper so I think the problem lies there. When you grab your slipper nut and try and move it left/right is there any play in yours? Also I notice the plastic Traxxas spurr slipper gear's seam to be out of round. Has anyone else noticed that? The spurr gear a little tweaked out of the package?

I can think of two issues.
First is a broken engine mount. check it for a hairline fracture.
Second is Chassis flex.

The plastic spur gears are almost always wobbly after installed. I usually spin it by hand & bend in the high spots till it spins nice. It also straightens itself out when there is power being sent to it to move your vehicle. As far as the play in the spur shaft, I would check the bearings in the tranny. I've never seen play from left to right like that. In/out maybe...

Ok I said screw it. I bought a new Racers edge 19t clutchbell and a RRP new style double slipper and 72 tooth spurr. I am sick of the plastic spurrs being all bent and mis shapen. Seems like they would make them under more precise tolerances. My T-Maxx is going to be sick ass by saturday. It has come so far and I am very proud of all the money I threw away at it.

Ok this is the part were I take my head out of my ass and listen to Ed a little more closely. We talked in AIM about my issuse and I told him I inspected my engine mount and it was not broken. Well I'm a freckin idiot because when I just took my engine off to clean my Maxx before I install the new Sirio .18 and the engine mount is broken and I couldnt see it because the bolts were holding it together. Well anyways Ed I'm ready for my :wedgie:

He still must not have seen it yet. I know I gonna get some poop about this.

oredered and new slipper spurr and clutchbell and tranny shft and all that the problem was a 1 corner of the mount broke off.

Blazer, I feel your humility. I've had the T-Maxx a couple months and I'm still trying to make it wheelie. I might be anal about keepin' it on the rich side to save the engine but the damn thing should wheelie as you dial it in. (As I read these posts I think about tightening the slipper clutch, and that method of adjusting clutch to spur gear mesh that I've employed already.)

You've made me "sirio"usly consider that .18 engine you've mentioned in another post.

computers and nitros... either can be whores.

Nannie-nannie-nannie....
So there....
I told you so....
When will you ever listen to me...
You think I talk to just hear my self?

What did I say?
I was actually right about something?
Thats a first.

Sorry I just got tired of being humboldt.
Glad to be of help.

Good bashing with you today Ed. Thanks for helping me dial in the new Sirio .18. You like my new slipper dont you! I love the RRP slipper and can't say enough about it.

Kimbrough makes a nice true spur. They actually machine theirs vs. Traxxas who just injection molds them and clearly yanks them out too early because they are warped. I think the Kimbrough's are Delrin too.

I just recently picked up another double disc slipper by RRP. Because I brought the ring gear down so far in size I had to get another one. And this time........(Sky is going to hit me).....I bought a METAL spur ring hehehehe.... Guess Ill try it and see how it goes.

Humbo - Like ImBroken said, check those bearrings. Play doesn't sound right. Bad bearrings in a CB can have a similar effect too.

Glad you found your crack!

I changed the bearings in the tranny from stock ones to the dynamite sealed and no more play.

I'm sorry but the topic "loose slipper" ... If you gotta pay for it, it's gonna be loose ... maybe go find you one of those christian girls ... tight and free!

for anyone who has seen the strobe slipper, the kippster extreme slipper for the 32 pitch is simular in design. real nice deal, and my next hop up.

i had a pic of one, but seem to have lost it.
