Hi all.

I recently fitted a Picco Red dot .26 which is just insanely fast :whhooo:

It's so fast that it reaches top speed real quick and has far too much power (than I need right now) at the bottom end. Am I right in thinking that if I make the gearing taller I'd have more top end but as there's ample bottom end to sacrifice I won't even notice the difference at the bottom.

So can anyone help with gearing advice? What do I need to change? Is it the bell crank and spur gear? If so, I can buy these in a kit right?

Am I right in thinking if I have taller gearing, I'll need to adjust my slipper clutch to ease the strain on the gearbox and drive shafts?

A larger clutch bell and/or a smaller spur is what you need. I'd go up 1 tooth on the bell, and grab a couple different size spurs that are smaller than stock. Then you can play around until you find what you like. 1 tooth on the bell and 2-3 on the spur makes a pretty big difference.

the red dot does have the power to pull any gear you put on it.
I'm runnin a 24t bell and a 54t spur. it is the tallest set of gears made by traxxas that need no mods. also you can install the wide ratio gearset.

also are you running the stock resonator? if so, it seriously restricts the top end of the red dot. the beast just can't breath. your Picco would really come alive, if you were to fit up a big block pipe like a dynamite053. its not a direct fit thoughit can be done with a little tweak to the header.

I'm running the Traxxas tuned pipe resonator (this one). I had this fitted just before my 3.3 packed in so have to use it really. I had heard the dynamite053 mentioned in connection with the Red dot before actually so I hear what you're saying. I do hope my resonator pipe isn't restricting my top end though. Any idea's how I can tell?

I've heard that the Ofna mount that I got for my Picco limits the gear choices. Is that what you mean by 'no mods'?

by no mods i meant without going to a 1/8th scale clutch.

and no, there will be no way to tell if your restricted... untill you try it.
so for now its hearsay. but my Red Dot powered maxx really likes a big block pipe.
