Kids? Some of you guys complaining about KIDS ?

I LOVE seeing kids come running every time I fire it up.
Don't think of them as pesty little irritants, but appreciate them for what they are.........
Moving Targets

Ding Ding Ding....that is the quote of the day.

I like the kids to be out there so when I mess up I do not have to walk all the way down the driver stand to flip over my ride....I love it when little kids flip over the nitro truck because when I gas it they think it is going to eat them or something along those lines....the kids curl back from the car and make this face like "WTF!"

LOL I guess I am lucky, I am on a first name basis with 7 neighbors that live close, and familiar with about 20 more.

I once went camping, went into town to get supllies stopped by the house on the way up to the mountains. While I was in the house grabbing some stuff, 4 neighbor kids 15-18 came in with baseball bats. They thought I was already camping, and my house was being robbed.

I completely understanmd not wanting to let anyone drive your maxx, they are damned spendy. I'm just a different type of guy, I let the 12-16 yr old neighbors drive my boat (with me in it of course) I taught the (at the time) 13 year old neighbor to drive a stick in my dune buggy. I taught another 14 year old how to shoot safely (hes 21 now).

Of course I now have loyal babysitters, lawn mowers, and furniture movers for free ;) So I don't have any problem lettting their youinger brothers and sisters have a little fun with my maxx. Of course if they aren't capable or don't have respect for it, they won't drive for long, or ever again.

Malicious Kids that disrespect my things, well they either come around really quick with the respect, or the whole neighborhood shuns them. It's alomst like an extended family. When my boy had his seizure, the 15 yr old neighbor kid stayed at my house (2:00am) with my two other kids so I could join my boy at the hospital.

BTW Error, I like your stories too.

I think If we where all like this, This world would be a better place.

I think if we all had neighbors like this, it wouldnt be such an issue either.

Sounds like he lives in a nice place, obviously its what you make of it.

Well for me, i've had annoying kids ask me questions. Usually I just answer their questions, then begin to ignore them. I do get a little pissed when they start walking or riding their bikes right where i'm obviously running.

But there were these two kids that came over and talked to me. They seemed real nice and respectful. So one day I just turned down the throttle end points to where the car wouldn't go very fast, and I gave them the controls. I honestly have no problem letting people drive my r/c's if they're respecful of you and what your'e doing and don't annoy you.

As for the neighbors, i've had a few run-ins with them. Not to mention a few golfers (I live on a gold course) :cheerful:

I live in the country so my bashing isnt bothering my neighbors. The neighbors I have are my uncle on one side (Who usually comes over and watches with his kids) and then a couple (who are friends of the family) who dont care at all. The only thing that sucks is theres alot of plowed feilds aroiund here that my A-arms dont like. :p:

The person who bugs me the most for the controls is my dad...lol..Which did a number on my plane so I'm skeptical on handing the controls over too for my maxx..

Just had a thought here. LOL we shouldn't be to annoyed by them, seeing as how they will possibly get in the hobby some day. They are showing interest in a great hobby. It is them with their new rc's that are gonna need parts that help keep the cost of our parts low. I am almost sure that the savage would not have as many cool parts without it.

Geeze, you guys are some cranky bast.... Well, yall have some valid points on both sides. Kids are inherently curious about cool toys, and will come running at the very hint of one being played with. Deal with it. The worst thing people can do is portray our hobby in a bad light. Being cranky and grouchy is just that way. It's alot easier to tell the kids that it's not a toy, and can be dangerous. If they persist, ask them how they would feel if they hurt someone with your gear. Offer to let them watch, but tell them to stay in one spot so noone gets hurt. And put a show on for them.

If you tell them to piss off and go away, they just might, and they just might tell their parents about the mean guy that told them to piss off. Then the parents might get the wrong impression and do something about the mean people telling their kids to piss off. See where this is going? Think you're safe?

Take a look in my gallery. Find the pic of the helicopter. The field in the background is a public park. I always respected the non-rc people in that park, and talked to passers by and tried to keep the PR high. Some guys that flew there thought it was funny to buzz these same people with their helis and giant scale planes. Well, those pedestrians got together and got the county to OUTLAW any type of R/C aircraft in that park for safety and noise reasons. It didn't matter if it was a glider, park flyer electric, or a big giant scale. A damned shame since the field was huge and dead flat. A perfect place to fly, but no more. Fly your stuff and get caught, they take your stuff, fine you, and then you have to go to court. I'm not BS'n, it happened.

True, kids can be a pain, but if you give them the impression that you are involving them in the activity, then they will stay in line. Another possibility if you have a computer radio, is to dial back the throttle ATV so that they can drive it, but it won't go past 1/4 or 1/3 throttle. Tell them that you set it like that so they won't hurt anyone, or damage your stuff. There's always solutions.

I agree with Error myself. Heck I have 2 boys who bugs the heck out of me sometimes, but that's the way it is, they are kids and with tons of curiousity in them. Let's not shut out those curious minds, in fact motivate them to think. Hey who knows, one of those minds could become the next generation thinkers of fine R/C cars/trucks.

In my neighborhood, I make the kids interest by asking them to watch and be careful around my truck. A couple of them actually act as my "pit crew" They pick up my truck when it stalls or flips.

:ha:

Don't get me wrong, nothings perfect here either. Sometimes I go out to tune, and have so damned many kids poking and asking I can't concentrate.
I just turn it off, BS a little answer some questions, and bring it back inside.

Other tmes I just want me and my boys to have time alone with it doing the bonding thing. It's a pain to have to load up and go to a apark, or a isolated area, but if I don't want to be bothered that's where I have to go.

i am the youngest one on my block. everybody got too old and went away to college. the other guys (kids my age) dont really care. to think of it 1 in every 3 people on my block is older than 25
my neighbors dont like me but thats ever since the time i blew a basketball up with my air compressor and constantly smash things wiht my axe and well maybe thats enought for one day!

Well Maxx it is a Toy bro...just an expensive one. I have some cool ass neighborhood kids whom I let drive SOME of my cars/trucks on a regular basis. Some of these kids are better drivers then me..lol.

If it wasn't for all the kiddies in the hobby, us grown something something and older men would be paying allot more for car/trucks and hopups. Or maybe we'd be paying less.

Guns, RC's, 1:1 cars and trucks. They're all just expensive Bigboystoys and cars for me in that they don't hold a higher value then what really matters in life.

FYI...I don't let the neighbor kids play with my 1:1 cars of guns.hehe.
