Ok fellas I may take the dive in this new trend to see what iti is all about.

First How many cells are you guys using? Second what is the current rating? I found some at a LHS( not one I care to mention cuz they suck ) and saw some 2 and 3 cell ones and they range from 750 Mah to 3100 Mah. For a receiver pack that is freaking amazing. The cost is between 30 to 180 duckets. The charger is around 40 duckets to that bill. Opinions. Is it worth the dive or just save my money?

the only people I know of who use LiPo cells are onroad were weight is a huge issue. If you are a hardcore pro racer then I would say yes go get then. But if you are an offroad basher funracer then I would say just stick to what u have.
 
Yeah I heard that too but heck if I can get my servos to perform their best I would consider the HUGE sacrifice in coinage.
 
Wademagee on another site and Ebay is selling the cells and "regulator" for 50 I think. Do a search on ebay. These are VERY sensitive though,dont over charge or let them fully discharge or they go BOOM
 
you can make your own Rx packs out of AA Nimh batteries. I just sauced up a 5 cell hump pack for my 1/8 buggy with Energ. 2500Mah AA Nimh and they worked great. I noticed no difference in draw or servo performance. Also you can drive for about 40 minutes with Dig. servos with that Mah capacity instead of 20 minutes with the 1200 Mah rx packs.........

I have also been looking into the Lipoly rx packs but have yet to find the regulator cutoff for the lipoly.......
 
The 3s will give you 11,1 Volt, the 2s 7,4 - so you will need to do something about that . The lipos work very good in planes, but do you think you will be able to notice the difference in a truck? (unless used to power a el BL motor) I dont think you will.

Also they are fragile, and dont like hard vibration/crashes and if mistreated they will explode or vent flames while either charging or discharging (bad news in a nitro I would guess :) )

I love them for planes, but dont see the point in nitros, unless as stated previously you will use them for a super racer and weight is really critical.

Just my 2 cents...
 
a number of pro team are using Li-poly for 1 hr races and in a recent car mag they did a 3 hr buggy race and teams switch out the li-poly every hour without a problem. You just need a voltage cutoff and regulator to bring down the voltage to 6 volts.......
 
i have been runninh a 7.4v pack for about four races in two diff buggies with noi regulator and have had no problems. with no regulator the speed and power of the servos has increased about 30 percent. i take care to keep them charged.

What servos are you running?
 
If they are digital is there a noticeable difference? I may go with this set up just for the fact I seem to bash more often than not. I will see what I can get. Money is sensitive....

I am liking the futab specs more and more. I had airtronics ones but I solds those in a different package.
 
i am gonna try my 2S 2350 li-ions from troybilt without a reg to see what kind of carnage ensues...the 5625 and 5945 on my mayhem suck freakin gobs of juice! killed a 1200mah nimh pack in like 20 minutes..
