I've been thinking about locking my rear diff... what do you all think? or should i just make the limited slip more limited?
 
I'm not very sure of the pros and cons of locking them. I've got a spool in my front diff, and it seems to respond faster than the rear. I remember reading somewhere that locking it can lead to more breakages, but I haven't had any problems yet.
 
I had a locker for a time in mine. Problem I found was I started breaking rear axles left and right. When I would take any real jump even if I let off the throttle it would snap a rear shaft. I even bent a MIP CVD that way. I needless to say went back to Limited Slip. :whhooo:
 
If you run a smaller engine IE 2.5 you may not break too much.

I tried a spool behind my picco once.... it broke. (the spool) after less than 3 gallons. really upset me because working on diffs takes so long.

I say NO dont do it.
 
I put a spool in the rear diff a while back and in the first 5 minutes I ran it I broke a rear half shaft and severely twisted the cvd. I took the spool out and threw it away. If you want posi, you can get the sealed diffs and add some heavy silicone diff locker.
 
When using a locking spool you should only drive on loose surfaces to allow for some slip at the wheels. Driving on asphalt and concrete is what tears them up. Using a thicker oil in sealed diff is the way to go if you intend on driving on different terrains.
