Obviously they still need decals and whatnot but I finished spraying them tonight. They won't look this pretty very long and hopefully they both last the entire winter season.

Yeah, that was kind of a PITA. I did the front clip effect in 4 different stages and I didn't quite get it aligned properly on this corner (you can tell from that angle). The other side turned out better. Oh well. I could write a book about what's wrong with both, but most folks will never notice. Besides, they'll both be all scuffed up after two race weekends :)
 
How long does it typically take you to do a lid, from prepping to completion? I know it depends on the complexity of the design, but on avereage what would you say? I think I had about 8 or 9 hours in the one I just finished. I'm sure I take a lot of time as I'm still learning the process.

You know I've never really timed it. I think the design process is the biggest toss up really. I might put 3 or 4 hours into just design as stare at it and I nitpick at it and make countless changes. Cutting mask user to take me a long time but I'm much more confident in my knife abilities now. I can blaze through mask now. Paint is the easiest part for me anymore.
 
I agree with you Josh...I mean rattle can and spray. For me super easy!!! Maybe that why mine never look very good?
 
I'm sure they look just fine Joey. I've never used rattle cans exclusively so I'm not gonna sit here and say what amazing work can be done with them, but most of the stuff I've done lately could be done with rattle cans up to about 95% or better. The only real need for an airbrush in that TC is the shadow effect in the white graphic and the Challenger could absolutely be done with rattle cans. For me the biggest advantage of using an airbrush is using airbrush paints, because you can mix them to your liking. For me, painting is more about the design aspect than the actual painting. I used to really stall when it came to the actual "work" put into the body. That was back when I was a bit more anal about being perfect. In recent times I've let go of that a bit and things flow sooooo much better and in all reality they still look great to the average viewer. Now when I lay down lines and lines and lines of pinstripe I don't shutter at the thought of cutting it out. It just goes. Granted, a lot of that has to do with experience too. I look back on it all and realize I've done quite a few bodies since I got into this hobby so I've had a fair amount of practice. I still enjoy a fairly simple design though. I've sort of found my style and it's not loaded with effects like tears and layer upon layer of complexity although I've done much of that sort of stuff.
 
True and I have to be honest when I look at a body and say wow that is nice but I would never run it because it is TOO nice. Some are like that and it is like a shelf queen it kinda takes a lot of the fun out of it for me. I have never really tried my hand ar air brushing really so I can't really say what I can do with one. I know the techniques...but can I actually do them...lol. Who knows. My air compressor was oiled so that kinda kept me away from most of it too.

Yeah, those were started last year just couldn't get 'em finished before New Years. I still count 'em as 2011 :)
 
Still waiting on "Lessen Works 2012"... Airbrush must have become a permanent attechment to your hand and you can't post with it.. ?? :hehe:
 
There is a strong possibility that 2012 may be a much bigger year as far as my painting goes, but not for a few months at least.
