I'm having trouble with the axel nuts, mainly the right side is coming loose, mainly because the hexes are spinning in the rims but thats not the only reason. Why not put lefthanded axels at all four corners, then the nuts would not loosen up as easy because they would be trying to tighting up all the time?

I have a left handed socket wrench you need to try for those nuts that come off at the wrong time. In responce to your question you would be loosening 2 of the nuts just to the tires rotating. You could change the ones on the left to be left threaded but I have never had a problem with any of my nuts or bolts coming loose. Use a little brute force and they stay put or a little thread locker will do the trick for the weak people out there.

Yeah, what EP said. The only time I've had any "problem" with the lugs comming loose were the times I run for an hour strait without shutting down and checking stuff. For the ultimate no loose lug solution: tighten 'em up to your desired torque and then spot weld the lug to the shaft. If the nylon part on the lug is worn, replace the lug, or use some blue loctite, but that won't last forever either.

Come to think about it, aren't the shafts on the wrong sides? If on the right side the lug tightens right handed, and the tire resists the turning of the shaft and the lug has a greater affinity for the rim than the shaft, wouldn't that make the lug loosen if the shaft is turning clockwise and the tire resisting (in effect trying to go CCW inrelation to the shaft) due to gription to the ground? Same applies to the left side. If this is a sound assumption, wouldn't the lugs try to tighten if the shafts were swapped side to side? And would that cause a greater problem of the lugs getting so tight that they crush the rims?

Where the hell did that come from? Sorry Pee Wee, I didn't notice that it was you that posted. That rant just came out, but I don't think anyone has posted about the Rt/Lt threaded lugs on the Savage before.

My lugs are shot, I have new ones on the way. I was driving the other day and tought of it and never gave it that much thought to be honest , just thought I would post it and see what you thought. I'm new to this hole thing and thought it would be better if the lugs would be tighing up all the time, but I guess you can "crush" the rims.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention, nylock nuts, lock washers and star washers are designed to only be used once. After their initial use they should be replaced. While most people, myself included, don't only use them once, had you replaced them each and every time you take them off you would probably never have the problems you are having with them staying on to include even if you did not tighten them fully.

I tighten mine with a left hand screwdriver adapter then tap them with an electric hammer(lol)

Stop and think about it most of the power is sent to the right side wheels and if your axal is suddenly twisted clockwise AND your hexes in your rim are getting stripped out the lug nut will not move as fast as that axal. (Just like using an impact wrench on a nut and bolt it's that sudden snap) and the lug nut WILL become loose. This HAS happened to me .I don't think it is an problem until your hexes start to strip the rims out. But if a guy had left handed threads this would tighten the lug nuts up
