LE or X?

I would go with the X if you are shopping for a truck. The diffs and trans are much easier to maintain now that the redesigned them I have the X and the old style savage.

I'd go with the LE. I know its a little harder to work on but come on man, it has a 3 speed, dual disk brakes, cool rims. dirt bonz tires, and basically the same exact engine!

I would go for the X. I owned an old SS and hated the radio box with a passion. The new radio box is MUCH nicer, and if you have a hump pack with a charge jack you never hafta break open the radio box. It has the bigger wheel hexes whice prevent the wheels from stripping, it has the little roll cage (which is really nice for protecting the engine from scratches, not hard landings, its pretty flexable) rotostart 2 to help get more life out of one-ways, lower LCG for better handling, and more. The X is an updated truck, its the one to go with IMO.

But for the money and what its worth i would go for the le, like i said you get the 3 speed and all that good stuff. The le would kick the x's butt because of all the upgrades. I know the radio box is a little hard to work with but i heard that the new radio box switch like lock breaks because it is just plastic. Plus with the new cover dirt and moisture can get in through the throttle servo opening and cause a lot of damage because that is right where the front tires throw all of the debre!

Since you only open the radio box every once in a long while, I don't see a problem. I have not opened the radio box on my X once since I bought the truck over a month ago, and that was to get the antenna wire in the tube. I'm not so sure the LE would kick the X's butt, the X is lighter and has a more powerful engine. If you have ever tried to get the diffs out of your truck, you would know its a PITA. The diffs in the X come out with six screws. Also the tranny can be tanken care of without taking the whole case out.

Both are awesome trucks and you will be happy with either one laskow, but to me the X is over all a better truck.

I haven't tried taking the diffs out of my truck. But just by looking at it in know it will be a PITA to get them out. Heck getting the engine alignment right is a PITA!

I don't think it's that bad getting the diffs out. I'll admit I was dreading it the first time. You do have to take more apart than most. Maybe I just got used to it.
I do hate the radio box. With a passion. Pins on mine are broke right now.

I would go with the X. Just because it was the latest upgrade on the Savage. I would think all the upgrades that are out are going to fit? Thinking everything but the extended TVP's? Is that right?

There is a simple answer to this. All we need to know is if you are just going to bash, or bash and race?

If you are going to just bash, the x is the best choice for you. If you want to bash and race definatly get the le. I just comes more race equiped.

its gonna be a truck for both bashing and racing...so the LE is where the moneys gonna go

Just rember, the Savage X is a newer model, make sure to cover ALL the base's,don't forget to compare the hop up's on the X to the LE,wouldn't want to buy a truck if it's gonna cost more to equal it to the Newer model.

Get the X!!!!

It's a little lower. Ok, almost a 1/4". What is up with that?
It is the latest upgrade.
Easier to work on, if you aren't used to it.
Anyway, if you race it the 3 speed isn't going to make a difference. Going to have to set it up real good, or you are going to be coming out of a curve in third gear.
Most racers just have a center diff from what I see.

If you think you are going to race much, look at the Revo. Take a lot of upgrades to get the Savage to handle that good.

X, new and improved things that were on the 21 series. So that means that that HPI went through and fixed the flaws (not many) to make an even better savage.... XXXD

What, the 3 speed is what my friend uses with a ss 4.6 to race. He improved his lap time incredibly because he could accelerate out of the corners faster!

I know thw x is lighter and lower and all. But that doesn't make it a racer. To make it a racer, your gonna have to put in at least $80 for tires. that alone makes it worth getting the LE.

I also did some adding. Heres the list i came up with:

Polished tuned pipe: $38
Dual Disk Brakes: $18
3 Speed(assembled) $125
Heavy Duty Drive Trane $140
Rim tire set: $80

Thats $311 in accesories. These i all got off of HPI's website
The savage x costs $455.00
And the savage LE costs $499.00, off of hobbytron.

You're getting $311 worth of accesories for $45. I would say buy the LE.
If you want it to be lower, with all of the money you saved by buying the LE you can get the LCG racing chassis for $115. This truck will be super race ready for a fraction of the costs.

Imagine how much work it would be to put all of this stuff onto your x. It would take days and $311 more dollars!

The LCG TVPs would make a huge difference if you are racing. The X also has a bit more power. The tires on the X are not bad at all, and the drive train is just fine. If you do the ofna throttle mod for a few bucks your good to go on the brakes. It makes a lot more sence to me to get the latest, most improved truck. The X is much easier to maintain, due to easy access to tranny and diffs. IMO the X is a much better way to go. The X is also more adjustable with more mounting options on the shock towers, and the adjustable turnbuckles.

All i'm saying is the LE is perfect for what he wants to do. The x has hardly anymore power, its like .1 or .2 horsepower. Big deal. The tires on the x are not race ready. The would be loose, just like the original tires.

I see a noticealbe difference in power between my savage and the old SS, and not just on launches. The tires on the X are not as good as the ones on the LE, but they are way beyond that of the origional savage tires.

Totally agree with you on the tire issue. When i go out onto the street it fishtails so bad its crazy. Thats why i'm getting street tires.

About the engine, thats cuz it is slightly lighter and a little bit more power.

I know that the x is the best basher out there now, but i would take the LE if i was going to race and bash since its race/bash ready!

Oh, you had the ss. Thats why. HPI made that truck a lot more outdated. It only has a 2 shoe clutch. And the horrible gas tank.
You saw a difference in those 2 trucks. Not the LE. The LE has the better pipe so in stock form they have the same amount of HP. The LE might even have more with that pipe. I know when i bought my new pipe i saw a huge increase in power over the composite one.

I would get the "X" because of the lower CG, easier maintenance, and more suspension adjustability. I may be converting my modified SS to an "X" chassis. I race my truck as much as possible and IMO the 3-speed is not needed for racing. A strong motor, good spur/CB gearing, and the 2-speed is all you need. One issue I see is that the new "X" spur is only available as a 49T setup. I run the 47T on my SS.
