i got on offna 2 speed ld3 a couple of weeks ago and I'm liking it, but I'm writing u guys cuz i think its time to start maintaining it, it has some sand on spots that can only be cleaned off by removing parts, but since I'm really new at this...I'm being skeptical about the whole taking parts out deal. Is there another way that i can take out the sand.
Another thing why does the engine keeps on dying when it runs about half a tank, its being doing that with the last 2 tanks.
Also is it necessary to cut a hole on the front and rear windshield of the body, i think it looks hidious.
ID APPRECIATE UR HELP
THANK YOU.

first - u really should learn how the vehicle works, so that maintence and repairs will become easier. i would strongly recommend u actually taking the vehicle apart to clean it. just do one section at a time, so that you remember where everything goes.

CUT OUT THOSE BODY HOLES! this is very important. without doing this, it will cause the engine to overheat and fail.

this brings me to the final part of the question. engine issues. how hot is the engine running? u seem to new to own a temp gun, so after running the engine for a tank, spit on the head. does it sizzle right off? if so, the engine is far too hot. Did you break in the engine properly? this is also important. Usually, but not always, when an engine behaves the way u are describing, it is ending its life and getting blowby. this is usually due to improper break in, and ineffective cooling.

Consider getting a temp prob or on-board because it could be the difference between 1 month or 1 years worth of engine life.
These engines run very hard and they need holes cut. You will do serious damage to the piston, sleeve and sometimes can result in connecting rod bending. If you do not have a temp gun or whatever, use the mothod Nitroaddict provided you. That is the best way to tell. Use spit or a little bottle of water to drip on the top fin, not at the glow plug.

Regards...

most engine manufactures for sport engines will tell u to break in the engine with a minimum of 6-8 tanks

how does that work nitro, can u run more than one tank a day, or do they have to be ran on different days. By the way is the force .12 s engine the one the LD3 uses. Is it good, what other engine could i use to replace it in case i mess it up? I want a powerful one.

usually, break in is done all at one time, but can be done over a few days as well. if u broke it in improperly, then it is too late to fix whatever damage may have occured now. If you indeed think that this is the problem, just run it excessivly rich, as this will help increase engine life, but will reduce top speed.

if u choose to purchase a new engine - i would recommend the OS Max .12CV-RX, cheap and extremely powerful for a basher.

The the Ofna "Red Head" really is not a powerfull engine. It comes rated at about .5HP. The engine that NA just mentioned is rated at about 1.5HP and is a much better quality engine from what I've read. I have an LD3 and while it seems like a great basher (w/2speed) the engine is NOT the best.

If I were more into onroad I would definitly get the OS engine.

a took the whole car apart to clean it this morning, every little screw and part is out. I dont think i can put it back together by myself since there r so many different parts. Looks extremely intimidating, like something i shouldnt have done. To put this taking apart deal to good use, what other good hop ups can i get for my ld3 besides the OS Max .12 CV-RX engine, is a new bigger cooling head neccesary for the os max, what about a new muffler, do they increase power in rc nitro, if so wich one do u guys recomend. I'm gonna get the temp gun this friday so i still dont know if the engine is messed up completely. but chances are, ill get the OS MAx. Can ur LD3 get 50mph robriguez?

no way not een with the 2 speed. The Red Head just isnt powerfull/fast enough to get to that speed. Well Maybe if your running on a really really long straight away but I still doubt it.

There are a tonof hopups now...check the OFNA.com website, the PRO pipe looks good.

As for putting everythingback to gether.....lol...there are a TON of screws. I did that a week after I got mine and it took me 2 weeks to get it back to gether right. Everynight wrenching on it for an hour or so trying to put everything back to where it was. The instruction book it comes with is pretty good as RC manuals go so you should be able to get it back....Just have a lot of patience and if you put something together and it doesn't seem just right....its not. I learned that one the hardway. Killed my 2 speed the first run after installing it.

Well let me know if I can help along the way...after taking it apart and putting it back together like 12 times already I'm pretty familiar with the car. One thing that will really help is to get a pit stand. There like 10 dollars and well worth it. This way you can keep the wheel off the table and spin it around to get to different parts real easy...even has a little tray in the bottom to keep screws and such.

I would tell you the same the guy at hobby town told his customer that always brings in his max. It's your hobby don't be afraid of it.

ofna has horrible instructions compared to most other manufacterers.
although stay at it and you will get it back together.

suppossedly one of the ld3 rtr kits does 53 out of the box. or so says the reviewers who clocked it.
my buds ld3 is pushing 60 with his engine. i forget the type, not a common engine you hear about everyday.

i tried to start the engine the other day for about a whole 3o minutes and it wouldnt start at all, now the only thing i can do is take it to my lhs, to make sure its a complete piece of junk. and as to the os max .12 engine cv-rx, they didnt have it and i was told that to find a 1.5 hp pullstart engine is not easy. but bfore i get a new one , ill have to make sure i messed the stock one up!

i managed to put the car backm without too many problems, actually the only problem i had , more like a pain in the ass, was the front servo arm and all the front parts that steer the car.

back together ^

The stock engine should start with no problems once you tune it and learn how to prime it correctly. I had one hell of a time trying to get it started when I first started. I had it so flooded that nitro was dripping from the pipe before It even fired.

I took it to the LHS, he removed the glowplug and put it on a starter box. It was spouting raw fuel for 20-30 seconds. It looked like a whale sprouting seawater.

Anyways, Once I learned to to overprime the engine I have been abe to start it in the first 2-3 pulls every time. It takes about 30 seconds to get up to temp then it runs great. Take your time, have alot of patience. Once day it will just "click" with you and you wont have problems after that.
