I was looking at the LG's since the commercials for them kept showing on TV. Can you tell the difference between 720P and 1080P? I would like to get a nice 26-30" LSD for my son's room and a 46" or larger for the living room. I just want to stop having furniture to set a TV on. I want to mount it high and have a tiny spot for the DVD and game consoles. Speaking of walmart, I did see a nice 26" LCD for about 500 bucks. Seemed high but the picture was nice.

Sorry bro, can't help you with the 720p and 1080p thing....360p? I know I don't have anything that will actually put 1080p to use so I didn't worry about it right now, I hope to replace this one with a bigger one next year and put this one in my spare room. I will also tell you that the flat panel has a bigger look to it. I had a 32" tube and went with the 32"LCD and the LCD looked much bigger, the 37" seems huge right now but I think I'll get adjusted to it just fine LOL

Here is the link to the one I bought, not the best but great picture with some nice features IMO.

I got one of the new sharp aquos 46" last month....going from a 36" CRT to this thing is FREAKIN AWSOME!!!
I have all teh game systems hooked up to it and didn't need an external switch box.....1080p / 6ms response time and 8000:1 contrast this thing is the closest to 3d video I think I could get...LOL....I went to brandsmart (like a sams club for electronics and no memberships) paid 1400 with a 3 year warranty.....

Well I finally broke down and purchased an LCD TV - a Samsung 40" 1080p. So far I'm using just a simple set of bunny ears to pull in over the air HD channels, but will be calling the cable company tomorrow to get HD cable.

So far I'm loving it, the TV looks great. Also purchased a new receiver and of course TV stand for the TV.

What kind of Rx Woodie? When we purchased our Home Theater setup 4 years ago I went with an Onkyo 7 channel. That thing is killer. I have yet to use all of it's abilities. My wife wants a t.v. in the bedroom so that'll end up getting wired through it as well. Congrats on the Samsung, I've been pretty happy with our Samsung DLP. Picture is awesome. We've had it for a few years and it's on A LOT so it's starting to show it's age. We've only repaced the bulb once (this summer) and guy told me we got really good life out of it. 16,600 Hrs. He said Samsungs has a reputation for being very efficient with the lamps.

Now that I think of it. I think I will start shopping for a bedroom t.v. for Christmas. Great... so many choices :)

My old receiver was a Kenwood 5.1 setup, but it was every bit of 5 years old. I've replaced it with a Sony 6.1 setup which included the HDMI ports I was looking for in a receiver. Far from top of the line, but works perfect for Sunday afternoon football games :D

LCD TV - a Samsung 40" 1080p.

I think that's the one that caught my eye today in Best Buy. It had crisper movement and brighter contrast than the Sony below it. I'm still window shopping, but right now that one is at the head of my list.
I've also picked out the new stand I want for it.

40 inches is a good size for a t.v. IMO. It's big enough to feel "big" but not so much that it's the center of the family room. Ours is in an armoire so that certainly helps it "fit" in. Besides, if you go too big and aren't far enough away they don't look great anyways. We sit about 12-14 feet from our 43". It's real nice at night with all the lights off :) I love that theater feel. I like to crank the sound like in the theaters too. You know you woudn't think so but the best surround sound moment I've experienced so far is a scene from Polar Express. The sound and rumble of the train is just stupid cool. Almost my favorite 5 seconds of the holiday season

We just got a Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p for my mom at Best Buy (the friday after Thanksgiving) along with a Samsung Blu-Ray player and mounted it on the wall in the kitchen. I must say, that TV is so crisp, and the colors are so vivid, it is amazing. I just got a Samsung 30" computer monitor as well for my computer, and it is just as awesome.

so you went with Blu-ray huh? I'm not diving into that pool quite yet. It is very unfortunate that we have this whole 2 format high def DVD thing going on right now. I refuse to pick between two formats. There are a few blu-ray/HDVD players out there but they are waay too expensive still. When the market for the combo's get's more competitive the price will drop but untill then I'm holding out.

Yeah, yawn... here we go again.
Beta vs VHS, 8-track vs cassette, DAT vs CD, Laser disc vs DVD and now HD vs BlueRay.
One always goes down the tubes, leaving the buyers with a useless piece of equipment, and a need to buy more.
BlueRay popularity is based on Block Buster's statistics dealing with what format is rented the most.
What do they expect? It's a LOT of Disney rentals, and Disney is only on BlueRay.
I'm another holdout on this, but I have a feeling that it's HD going down for the count in this round.

We only went with blu-ray because I had a few movies she liked, since I have a ps3 that plays them. Doesn't really matter which format dominates, I like Blu-ray for now.

This is the perfect time to upgrade to PS3 since it's also a Blue Ray player, and eventually it will be the winner, the way things are looking now.

There seems to be more Blu-ray players at the local Lectro stores I've noticed. How long do you think it'll take for one to win? I'm a youngin so I'm not familiar with the timeframe of the other battles. I sort of remember Laserdiscs for a short time. Never caught on, I was probably a pre-teen at the time.

I'd say, from past experience with the other format battles that it's about a 3 to 4 year overlap before one officially bites the dust.

That really sucks. At least it'll become very apparent much sooner than that. Maybe next year I'll feel more comfortable buying into it.

I think the timeframe on this battle is going to be alot shorter....back in the 8track / cassette and VHS / Beta days there wasn't a real efficient way to track global sales of those items.....now you can query a sales companies database and get the raw numbers almost instantly....I think Blu-Ray will come out on top...Sony has tried to be an inovative format company for years and lost there asses on every prior media (mini-disc, micro disk, DAT, and weren't they pushing betamaxx too?) anyway they seem to have learned their marketing lessons of the past and are pushing their format (blu-ray) to the utmost......

If they could only get the porn industry on their side they'd have this thing clinched. That's one of the big reasons VHS came out on top of Betamaxx.

I don't care what format wins, I just wan't them to figure it out quickly.

yeah, I hope it's quick too. I want to enjoy my HD t.v. for more than just broadcasts.

I guess I'm cautious due to my previous bandwagon jumping.. MiniDisc. Yeah, I've had a few of those  It was a great product though. They fit in your pocket better than a DiscMan and they almost never skipped. Unfortunately, it was developed during a very rapid changing technological timeframe. Flash memory was right around the corner.
