this is ISS as it sits right now. pic was taken as the shuttle undocked to come back to earth a few days ago. we just got done installing the 4th solar array.

That is pretty incredible! The funny thing is it looks like a flying tin can with solar panels! lol Just WOW.

I am a desktop support tech for lockheed. i also support about 30 machines at jsc. (nasa)
 
Awesome! We were sitting on the beach in Tampa when we heard the double booms.

What exactly makes the double boom? Is it going Mach 2 or something?
 
The double boom you hear is from the rapid overpressure from the nose cone of the aircraft and the rapid return of normal pressure once passed the tail of the aircraft. Normally this occurs within 1/10th of a second on normal sized craft and not easily distinguishable to the human ear, but the shear size of the space shuttle increased the pressure and the time it takes to pass the tail, to 1/2 second, I.E. easily distinguishable.:D
