I'm sure this has been covered time and time again, but it relates to other questions some others have had lately. My 2.5 runs decent, but will stall after high speed passes every once in a while. Hard to start afterwards, usually requiring full throttle. The pinch test yields a time of 3.4 seconds(got the stop watch out for kicks) smokes good and gets up to 270-280 after high speed passes. Cools to 250-260 while idling. Idles a little wobbly but settles in after a few seconds. Checked for air leaks; couldn't find any. Makes good power with the 18t bell and 3.3 tires. I bought this truck used, freshly broke in(sure). Does this sound like the motor's starting to get worn out, or should I fine tune a tad more. Thanks as always.

sounds like time for a rebuild at the very least p/s replacement imo

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Time for a 3.3! I have a pair of 4908 shafts and carriers laying around. Enough tie rods to build a bridge. Suppose I'll slap them in the rear end and give 'er hell!

The 2.5r Is a pretty good replacement for the old 2.5 It's not a night and day diff. but you can tell it runns alot better . My nieghbor just did the ERP for it. And it's a spunky engine. Hard to keep the front wheels down.

No way would I pick up the smaller motor. If I had the cash to upgrade the drivetrain properly, I would go for the picco and be done.

sadly i have the origanal maxx just went wide with all 3.3 stuff gonna go 3.3 erp myself

Yes Yes It does but this is my hobby right:Dthats what I TELL MY WIFE.....

problem blessing all of the above... Ill take I don't know for 500 alex hehe

I was just suggesting it to save on money, and it would be a small upgrade That you would not need all of the upgraded drive train.

I here ya, bro. Didn't mean to come off rammy. With a few cheap upgrades, the 2.5 Maxx can handle the 3.3 engine with no problems. I'm sure the 2.5r is a great upgrade for the standard .15, though. Especially in a Rustler or a Sport. For a younger or inexperienced driver, the 3.3 could be a little too much to handle.

Oh it's nothin man. I just thought you were looking just to replace the stock 2.5 with something and throwing the 3.3 up in the air for a thought. It's all good. Yea it'll handle it i have a tmaxx 2.5 chasis and a 3.3 on it no probs. yet (knock on wood):D

Yes, I find that my 2.5 is a really fussy engine on the tune. Usually the frist tank is spent getting it running half real for that day. The rest is fun though. even with all the metal and the larger tires I can get the front end to come up in the air. When this dies I'm going with the 3.3 through the erp while I upgrade the drivetrain. By the time that the 3.3 bites the dust maybe something with a little more kick to it. It is just too much $$ to put out all at once for an engine and drivetrain upgrade. (and the wife is less likely to pick up on a slow trickle into the money pit instead of a large amount all at once...lol)

yeah if you get the 3.3 your half shafts wont last long. it tears them up

Mine runs alright, though it needs a little persuasion to do a wheelie from a stop(bump). The only problem is that it dies after wot passes sometimes and then it only starts at wot, unless I let it cool off for a couple minutes. It's tuned spot-on, but I can push it past the pinch with very little effort. Which means the starter can, too! With an 18t bell, stock spur and 3.3 maxx tires, it doesn't take very long to hit full speed. It'll even wheelie into second every once in a while. Runs between 255-265 idling and 275-285 after high speed passes. 70 outside. I'll probably have to crack the hsn open a tad when it gets real hot. Temp guns are awesome.
