Hey everyone I'm looking at getting a kerosene heater like the one in the link...Just wondering about some pros and cons I'm sure someone here has had one at some point....Couple of questions about them if you have had one one do they smell when they are on? Another one is it safe to use in the house with a seven month old around? http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

They do smell. Especially after you put it out. And the room it's in needs a ceiling fan. I use on in my shed in the winter. The ceiling can be 100+ but at the floor only 30.

Not safe at all with a toddler. They could reach throught the grate around the main part and get a heck of a burn. IT gts hot enough you could fry something on it.

That said is nice in case the power goes out.

You can't use a kerosene heater in a house. They kick off a ton of noxious fumes, spit flames out and just plain stink. I use one in my old tin garage with no ceiling or insulation. Plenty of ventilation! Even my heavy smokin' ass get's a bit of a sore throat after being in there with it running for a day. I just looked at your link. I use a forced air heater but that one still has all the cons I mentioned. Go with a safe electric one. No glowing wires or hot surfaces. For a garage, a propane heater works awesome. Less smell and cheaper fuel.

That's not true at all, I just bought that exact same heater and it works well, with very little odor. If the wick is bad, then yes it will smell.

Yes you can! As long as the unit is in good working condition and burning properly, there is no problem using it in a house. We did for 5 days last winter after an ice storm knocked power out for that time period. Sounds like yours is in piss-poor shape.

Like stated above though, you'd have to watch a toddler close. It could seriously burn them if they were to play around it.

I would def watch him close..its not that the propane heat is in bad shape ,just that the thermostat and the heater are in the same room so it doesn't heat much of the other rooms,my bedroom and my sons are next to each other off of the living room but they are always cool living room stays nice and warm then the kitchen and bathroom off of the hallway leading in are cold....So figuring that i cannot us an electric heater i would buy one of the kerosene heaters also saving on money propane....
