I am trying to install a wireless connection onto my daughters computer and get this error when the cd rom drive trys to auto play. Her computer is nothing new. It's using windows 98 as an os but it's fine because all she uses it for is games presently. Does anyone know how to bypass this eror or fix it, aside from buying a new computer for her?

PS: for all you mac users out there I have and still do heckle... You can kiss my 3rd point of contact!
 
MS DEFINITION OF THE KERNEL32.DLL ERROR

Sounds like your OS does not like your new CD-ROM. Check to make certain the software is compatible with Windows 98. If it is, you may have to re-install some portion of it to make this problem go away. If the problem happens with othre CD-ROMS or software, you may have a larger problem in the hardware department (bad CD-ROM or bad sector on a hard drive.)

If it makes anyone feel any better, I tangled with a older powerbook G4 last week. It had OS 10.1 on it and the client was having trouble installing an airport extreme card (802.11g wireless). Seems as though it required OS 10.1.5 for the driver to work right, but the 10.1.5 patch wouldn't install because the installer needed to be updated. I tried to update the installer, but was then informed that the update installer needed to be updated before I could undate the update installer update... installer... update. uh, Kernel panic, kernel panic.......

EP, I'd check the version of 98 that's on her machine. Is it 98 or 98SE? If it's old 98, it might be an issue. Alot of new hardware doesn't always support the first edition of 98.

OS X still rocks, but it's not perfect.
 
My brother in law who programs for microsoft said the same thing. Grandma said she'd sport for a new dell desktop for her granddaughter. Guess that problem is solved.
