Help me out here fellas, picked up a really nice XB8 at a steal that came with a JP Racing FX5BN mod motor. The mill is pretty pricey and so are rebuild parts (p/s and con rod about $180.00). It still has some compression to which is fine but I'm wondering if I should sell it as is and get something like a V-Spec or P5? Mugen Seiki is now a distributor for JP but parts still seem hard to find. Anyway, just wondering what some of you thought or if anyone has any experience with this mill.

not sure what models they were but I've seen mugens running JP mills and they are just sick power....very similar to the rossi 421b (the ones I've seen run)....personally I like my p5 and am going to stick w/ that for a while....I really think it has more ooomph at teh bottom and I don't see the other guys w/ "top end" engines having much more on top than I do......

Thanks Plaid, I think these things go for about $380 new. I know high dollars don't always equal best motors but figure that kind of price tag might account for something. I never looked into what a p/s for a P5 or V-Spec would run so I guess I should do that. If it costs just as much I'd just as soon keep the JP. Or if someone can tell me these things are worth sinking the $180 into for a new p/s & rod then I will keep it, afterall that's still cheaper than a whole new mill.

JP engines are based on NovaRossi designs/castings. You might find that Nova/Top/Rex/RB parts are interchangeable.

The JP Modifieds have an excellent reputation but even the "Stock" ones are good and very reasonably priced. Maybe the "Stock" parts could throw your engine an economical lifeline?

You know I was wondering about that since they are an Italian engine. I know the stocks have different p/n's for the p/s than the mods. They do seem more popular over on your side of the pond. I may pull the p/s and try to match it with something you mentioned. Thanks niggle!

The JP's FX5BN is really good engine. But, another $180 to rebuild just doesn't sounds right to me. I would clean the engine up real good and sell it. You can get a brand new Novarossi P5 for around $230. I recently bought a used Rex P5 (5 tanks) for $180 shipped, and received it yesterday. I tear it apart to clean all the parts and reseal it, I still can't test the engine because I am waiting for starter box. Bought one used Ofna's also for $65.00 with 12v gel battery.

So how do you like buggy? :) I am addicted right now and truggy will be next.

if ya gonna sell it how much ya think ya might ask for it?

Jet do you have or have you had any big block nitros yet???
If not, give it a few weeks and you'll ask "what Revo?"

I have that GS Storm I ran for about the half the summer. I seriously like running two different classes. I have the Revo setup pretty good right now so it's a blast to drive.
