I just bought a savage today it will be here soon is there anything that I need to do to it before starting it fuel filter, different air filter, anything that i need to upgrade before taking it out the first time. Matt:banana:

flip the screw on the rear strut tower just behind the fuel tank so the head of the screw is facing the tank. This will prevent the screw from punching a hole in the fuel tank.

Other than that, have fun and congrats on you awesome ride!

MJime hit it right on!!! Flip that screw!!

Also, LokTite the set screw in the tranny! You dont want this thing coming loose. Most of the newer ones have already been loktite from the factory but you never know. HPI's website has a very good tutorial on how to do this. And if you dont want to take the tranny apart like some do, then get the green penetrating loktite along with some VeryFine tip extenders from your LHS.

First upgrades will be the airfilter (the new HPI massive airflow filter kicks ass!), dogbones (gpm has a cost effective titanium set) and check to make sure you have the newer style uprights. The pics of the new style uprights are on the HPI site as well. Ill get the links and put them up here for you.

HPI replaces the old style uprights for the new style for free. Just have to send them in. Its also a good idea to have some spares.

Aside from that, HAVE FUN! Its a solid beast!

Sorry I almost left out the tank guard - again GPM makes a rather inexpensive one and will give you piece of mind if you are a hard basher. About 13 bucks or so.

Oh Çh®i§tiªñ reminded me of something. Besides checkin if all the screws are tight, make sure you are not missing any bearings. 007kel got his Savage and it was missing a bearing in one of the wheels. Just do a once or twice over by visually and jiggling major parts like the tranny (on of the nuts on the tranny were loose and fell off. He had to get a new one), wheels, engine and mounts, and the electronics. I met a bunch of people who do not or are now missing servo screws because from the factory they were either loose or missing. This is not just a Savage thing. If you get an RTR, this should be the first things you do. Check out the whole car and make sure it is complete and built correctly.

Could you post a link to the hpi massive air filter? I think I found it at tower hobbies but not sure. Also I was looking at the sullivan double filter fuel filter good or not? Matt

The sullivan fuel filter is the way to go.. I and chris swear by them:D as long as it's the clear one that has two filters in it (think thats the only style they make but not sure) you got a link to it???

Another first mod, or safety precaution: Put a piece of fuel tubing cut long ways on the top of the TVP under the Engine Manifold. I've heard of a few people having large gouges in the manifold from rubbing on the Chassis.

that is definetly the fuel filter go with it and no airleaks (or at least very rare)

I have read about a hump battery to put in and the servos work better? Alsp can I use regular 20% fuel to break in with.

you can upgrade to a rechargable hump pack...it will give your servos a little extra oopmh. You can use 20% to break the engine in....especially if that is the percentage you will be using.

Do I need to upgrade the battery or will AA's work for now. I guess what I am asking is will they do a good job? Matt

Yes thats the filter.

check out www.hobbyetc.com for the entire GPM line of parts.

The HPI filter is next to impossible to find right now. Ill find a link to a pic of one....

Here is a link for the Air Filter
Here

Good Link AGM! They have them in stock so get one while you still can!!!!

Also, dont run anything less than 20% ! Thats what the mill was designed for.

And if you can spare the cash, upgrade to the 5 cell hump. Beats buying AA's any day of the week! Plus you get a better response from failsafes with a hump pak.

well I did it I got my first truck today. A Savage 21 will not be able to start breaking it in untill tomarrow looking for any pointers you guys got. thanks.
Tim
