I AM NEW TO THE NITRO THING JUST GOT A T MAXX FOR MY FIRST NITRO IT IS AWSOME. THE 3.3 HAS SO MUCH POWER BUT I'm HAVING A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH IT BURNING OUT GLOW PLUGS IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF TURNING OVER TO START IT AND IT WILL RUN AND STAY RUNNING ONCE I GET IT RUNNING. BUT AS SOON AS I'm DONE RUNNING IT THE GLOW PLUG IS TOASTED. GOT ANY IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE KINDA STARTING TO GET

Your probably running a little to rich. Try leaning the HSN a little bit( an 1/8 of a turn ). You might also need to adjust your LSN some, it probably needs to be leaned out an 1/8 of a turn to start. When I broke in my engine I went through a glow plug also, so I think that is fairly normal.

Hmm

Toasted the glow plug huh,,, what does the glow plug look like when it is toasted? What does the metal look like around the tip of the glow plug? Also what does the wire look like? If you have a hand held igniter put the toasted plug in it and look at the wire, what happens? What temp is the engine running at? Need more info

I Dont Have A Temp Gun Was Thinkin About Get The Venom Onboard Temp And Fail Safe And It Is A Ez Start So I Dont Have Glow Plug IGNITER I CAN TELL YOU I'm RUNNING 33% NITRO AND THE WIRE IN THE GLOW PLUG IS CRISPY WHITE THE BASE OR THE BOTTEM IS A GOLDEN BROWN COLOR

You need to get an IR temp gun. The on board is ok for its purpose, but it's not accurate like a temp gun. If I were you, I WOULD NOT run it again until you get one. You can get a nice one for 20 bucks, and it might just save you from toasting a $150 engine, not to mention you probably could have paid for it already with what you've spent on glow plugs.

Welcome to RCNT.
You will have to ignore the info posted by benjman420, since it is totally inaccurate, and will surely toast your engine.
benjman420, do NOT give advise just by guessing. Members come to this site because we are known for correcting issues with our years of experience.

A white filament is a sign that the engine is running way too lean. So is the fact that the plug burns out after shutting it off.

Normally they come preset from the factory to run rich during break in, but it's something you just can't take for granted.
You need to get a good temp gauge, rather than just expect it to run right. I'm sure it was well over 300 running that lean. Not a very good thing during the break in.
If you are already running it for power, you won't have that engine very long.

Yup

Definitely too lean!! Set the HSN to 3 turns out, just a start it may need to be adjusted even more lean. Hopefully you didn't mess with the LSN.

But The Factory Setting For The Tmaxx 3.3 High Speed Hsn Is 4 Turns Out If I Turn It 3 Turns Out Wouldnt That Be Even Leaner

Rolex What Kind Of Temp Gun Do You Recomend

I had the same problem with a trx 3.3 when it was bran new. I couldn't get threw a 1/4 of a tank with out burning a glow plug out. I found if I ran it rich it would happen but when I leaned it out the mill would get hot but the plug would last. so I ran it super hot. around 310F. I am surprised it lasted. After 5or 6 tanks the mill came down in temp. It still works great after 5 gallons later. I don't know if this helps but that is how I got past it. Also a onboard temp is best.

I have the Raytek, but it's about $90. Wait for a few replies from others. You can get some pretty good ones for 30 -40.
The Raytek is hand held, infra red. The hand held ones are always more accurate since you get the reading from the plug in the center of the head.

I run the Duratrax temp gun it was only $25 at my LHS. It definately sounds like your too lean. I too had high temps after break in. but from what I read it was normal to experience this. I ran about 1.5 gallons through the motor and decided I wanted even more power. The 3.3 is a great mill but will be a little finicky when it comes to tuning. I had to play with it just about everytime I went out. I am hoping things will be different with the new Picco in place

Thanks For The Advise Guys Got A Temp Gun Today From Autozone It Was 30 Dollers Looks Like It Will Work Going To Put The Truck Back Together Tonight Try To Run It And Let You Guys Know What Is Going On In More Detail So Hope Fully I Can Get This Running Like A Top.

Ok Guys I Did What You Said And I Got The Temp Gun And Ran It Today The Temp Was Only 300 Not That Bad I Guess So I Richend It Up A Little Bit And The Temp Stayed Right In The 250's And It Had Good Top End But The Low End Was Lacking. What Do I Do Now

now maybe confirm this with a more expierenced member but maybe lean you're LSN 1/16 of a turn. That should fix it right up.
