I finally broke down and bought the JR XS3 radio. I'm just waiting on shipping.

I know more than a few RCNT members have this radio.

I read someplace that the reciever on the XS3 has a weird battery plug. This means I'll have to change the plug on my power switch. How did you guys deal with this? Do they give a plug to soder on? Did you buy one at radioshack?

Also, the reciever box on my buggy is smaller. The reciever will fit as I've gotten the dimentions for it. However, if the battery pack, is any wider or taller than a the standard 4-pack of alkalines, it will be a problem.

Is there a smaller pack out there? (I still need the 6v for maximum steering servo power.)

Any suggestions?

What do you guys use as reciver battery packs?

-Rob

:UPDATE:

I might be able to solve at least one of my problems. I will post my findings here to help others that may be curious:

This is my current battery box which barely fits:

Notice the dimensions:

SPECS:
Length: 2.29" (58mm)
Width: 1.22" (31mm)
Height: 1.22" (31mm)

Now i move to batteries:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDJW9&P=7

it's demensions:

Length: 2.02" (52mm)
Width: 1.15" (29mm)
Height: 1.22" (31mm)

It looks like I'm a go for the battery.

Lesson learned today: Hump packs are the same dimensions if not smaller than the standard four AA packs you get with your radio.

I still run alkalines in my T Maxx, and I had no problem with my battery connector in my XS3 receiver

Please excuse the ignorance...this is the synth radio that everyone has been talking about, right??

I didnt use the batterypack that came with mine nor did I use the on/off switch. I had to make a mod on my stock on/off switch so it could fit in the power socket. Other than that, it was a breeze.

I finally got my XS3

All my questions about the reciever: It is small! A tiny bit smaller than the statndard futaba 2ch am reciever. I don't know where I read that BS about the reciever bieng large.

On the battery end. I don't want to replace the on/off switch I have. Therefore, I have to change the end on the battery pack. connector or demel the little plastic, futaba tab off the connector that's currently on my on/off switch.

I can't wait to get it set up. :)

Check the polarity first...if it is a J type connector rather than a Z type connector the polarity is different.

yeah. I don't think I would have made that mistake. black negative. red positive. The J connector is futaba i think. Z must be without the flap?

Yes...Z is without the flap.

the J type connector is set up something like

Signal (white)
+ (Red)
- (Black)

the Z type connector is

+ (Red)
- (Black)
Signal (Black or White)

I might be wrong, but every battery connector I own only has positive an negative wires.

I take it this is a servo type connector? If so, that's good info too. It just doesn't relate to the battery connector I had in my mind. :D

Man I must be asleep at the wheel today.

I could have sworn you were talking about the receiver to the server connection.....sorry bud. Just chalk my posts up to :spam

nahh dude. I had no clue about the J type Z type servo connections either. That is good stuff to know regaurdless. Thanks!

hey guys,
I'm new to nitro rc but am looking to get into it full swing. I have the JR Python radio but I broke the steering mechanism. It still works but doesn't spring back once it's gone past a certain point.

Anyway, my real question is how are you guys liking your JR XS3's? I've been looking at it at the local hobby shop for past couple weeks. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about breaking or fouling the crystals cause it's synthesized.
I'm just looking for some feedback on how you guys like it, if anyone is getting glitches (a problem I'm trying to cure) etc.

TIA

sorry NoviceRob if I hijacked your thread :)
