I know I've made a thread a while back, but just wondering if anyone rides skis. My parents made me a deal recently. Since I have been so busy with school (starting up here in a couple weeks), my 1967 Mustang project has been on hold for at least 2 years. Just sitting there collecting dust, cat hair, and whatever else is floating around. They said if I get rid of that (no matter what money I get for it), we will put a new pair of jetskis in its place. It only took me about 2 seconds to agree and the next day I listed it on Craigslist. Gotten 4 or 5 hits in the past couple days. I'm excited!

We are looking at a pair of '08 Kawasaki Ultra 250x's. I know I won't be able to use them all the time, but when they aren't used, they will sure look a hell of a lot better in the garage than that mustang!

O man there is one thing I always say not to get rid of it is your muscle car, caus one day when you 45 and hit that magic number for a mid-life crisie your going to want it back. But what ever man good luck with the ski's.

I know. I will kick my self for the rest of my life. I don't have the money or the time to devote to the project anyway though. I figured I will end up with a couple when I get older.

You're getting rid of a 67 Mustang? Read this:
Junk is something you've kept for years and throw it away three weeks before you need it.

Yeah, I know... I know I will kick myself later, but I think it is for the best now. My dad has wanted it gone since I got it.

Parents will always want you to get rid of old cars. My mom haswanted me to get rid of my 68 Dart for years, and she is 21 miles away from it in her house not like she has to look at it.

Long story made short its not going anywhere.

At least it's not a Yugo!

I ride. I have a 2002 Yamaha GP800R. Plan on adding a second next spring. Dude I don't know what kinda shape that Mustang is in... but man, are you sure you want to do this? Jetski's are a dime a dozen. You can get a jetski anytime you want.... a 67 mustang... not so easy to come by. Just my two cents. Those are nice jetskis though.

Well, the thing is, I still live with my parents. My grandpa gave me this big heap of crap (except for the body, which is incredibly straight for its age). Everything has to be replaced. He ran it into the ground. Right now, as it sits, it is almost completely taken apart, down to the body. I wanted to have it media blasted, and start over fresh, but I don't make enough money to take on this project in the first place. I'm in college! I could think of 1000 other ways to spend $40k. I would rather put that down on a house than blow it on a car. Anyway, I have been at war with my dad about keeping this thing in "his" garage (looks like mine... My stuff is everywhere!). Both him and I agree that it will settle things down between us. And we will get to go out have have some family time together.

I understand totally. You have to do what you have to do. Restoring a car does cost money, and I agree that saving for a house is much more important. I guess for some of us a bit older, a 67 mustang is a dream we would all like to make a reality. It is a really nice car. I also understand you have to keep the peace and if your father wants it gone, and it is in his garage... then it really leaves you with no choice. Good luck.

A 68 Dodge Dart?
I'm several states away from you, and I feel the same way your mother does.

Its a two door 68 Dodge Dart with a hyper pack in it. I've done everything to this car even the body was taken down to metal and repainted colbalt blue, well that was till some %^&**(^% broke into it and messed up the paint now its just primer again.

Brother, I say go for the skies. Karma is on your side. The 'Stang will come back to you. Hanging out with your family on the water far outweighs the value of the 'Stang. If I had some water close by, I'd probably have a set myself!

Only 250's?!

lol

Actually, I think they are 1400's. 250hp of supercharged goodness!

Monkey, I totally agree. I may be able to get the mustang back, or one like it.

I got it all cleaned up and took pics, and cleaned up the garage a little, so it is a little more presentable to anyone that wants to look at it. Just gotta look at the bright side. More family time (which we never really got... My parents are always working), and some killer skis on the lake! I really can't wait.

Well, things have changed a little bit. We are having a custom trailer made for the jetskis down in LA and it should be done later this week!

As for the Mustang...

It was on the market for about 3 weeks. My grandfather passed away 5 days after I made this thread. My parents now want to keep the car as a memorable item. Full blown restore (not stock). It should be fun, but it wasn't fun losing my grandfather.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences.

Have fun with the restore and the jetskis. The mustang will be a nice memory of your grandfather you will have forever.

Well, my Dad realized that it would be nice to have that thing around. My grandparents gave it to me about 4 years ago. It had been a big sore subject since my Dad lost his garage to it (even though he really does nothing in there after we built the house). We had been waiting on money and some time. Looks like we have a little bit of both. My grandmother died back in November due to colon cancer, and we had to put my grandfather in an Alzheimer's care home. Just about a month before he died he had a stroke, then battled some internal infections. Along with losing his ability to walk (not knowing it of course, due to alzheimer's) and much of his ability to control his body overall. He went to sleep one day, and that was that.

So, I lost my Mom's parents in about 6 months. Unforunately, they were the ones to whom I was the closest to. They raised me and my little sister while my parents were at work, and helped while we were building our house.

I just got back from Montana (family reunion) to visit that side of the family. I plan on going up there again to spend some more time with some of them.

Anywho, the mustang should be down at my neighbor's house getting new floor pans and being set up with new suspension this weekend. Then off to the engine builder to get the engine and trans mocked up so it can go to the body shop... Should be fun. Something that if gasoline is still around, I can pass to my grandkids.

we had a couple of yamaha 1100cc bikes. they had 110hp and were about the fastest thing on the water at the time. I've had the smaller one to 68mph. that doesn't sound fast but IS on water!

they are great fun, once you learn to toss them around (you ride 4 wheelers so that souldnt be hard for you).

just dont get stupid, I've seen people go flying at about 60mph, people come REALLY close to hitting, and people sink them because of stupidity.

you can do everything from cruze the backwater, to ski, to "play" on them. i dont think you will be disapointed.

Well, I got em home yesterday. We went and picked up the custom built trailer down in Los Angeles on Wed. I must say, I thought the trailer was huge, but with the skis on it, holy crap. I will get some pics up tonight hopefully. I am going to the lake tomorrow for some break-in action.
