I have had my jato 3.3 for a couple off week's and I have been reading on this forum about how these engines are good for about 3-5 galoons of gas. After that do you just need to replace the piston/sleeve and it should run like new? I have also heard of the mill going bad, what is a mill? Is it hard to change the mill and piston and sleeve, sorry newbie here.

A mill is the motor its just another name. The traxxas motors should last about 4 gals. from what I've been talking to the guys at my local hobby shop. On the trx3.3 you might be better off just doing the engin replacement program rather than buying a new P/S. Its a little more money but you get a new motor to start over with. Just my :2cents:

Now that I think about it 4 gallons is 16 qt's of gas. That's a lot of gas :dunno:

A mill is a engine.. A electrics motor is called a motor :lick:

Every engine is going to be different. All depends on temps, how it was broke in and how it was maintained. Some might get a gallon or two, while someone else might get 7 or 8. Best thing for long lasting engines is properly break them in as instructed, keep them in the correct temp zone and use after run oil after every use.

The highest that my temp has gone is 330. Is say's to not exceed 370 and I always do after run maintance. I am praying to get 5 gal out of this engine:bow:

330 WOW! Thats really hot. Your should be lookin for 250 max. Your wayyyy to lean on hsn. If you keep running at that tem your lucky to get 3. Wow I just can't belive that. :OMG:

:spit: My bad I meant 230, it would have been blown at 330. Still a newbie

Just as an experience user of the traxxas MILLS, some like to run pretty hot. I mean hot as in 270-280. Do I like to run that hot, no but I do like them to last so if they run a little slower , thats fine by me. No sputters at top end and a little fat on the acceleration will be ok.

When i'm WOT it's runs really clean but I notice right when I let off after WOT the rpm's go a little high then go back to normal. Is this ok

That really sounds more like an air leak. Have you tried to look for one?

Where should I look? Another question. Should I set the tranny to shift at higher rpm's or lower. Thank's for the help

That depends on your liking I prefer it to change about 10-15 feet out.Depends on the gearing you choose as well.

I'm a noob i no a little about nitro rc (seeing as i come for a car background)do all engines have that low of a life span and if so do u have to replace or repair??

Not particularly. Engine lifespan is almost always directly proportional to the owner's tuning abilities, chosen fuel, and use. There are exceptions as in any engine.

If you run really lean, WOT for great lengths of time, driving on grass or in mud, so that the engine has a lot of strain on it...then expect it to die quickly. If you run in the sweet spot, keep the WOT times reasonable, and run on a proper surface all the time...then expect the engine to live longer.

Stock engines tend to run the full spectrum. TRAXXAS engines tend to run hotter than most and die quicker than most. HPI engines tend to run well for a reasonable amount of time. Beyond those brands, I'll rely on others with experiences in specific brands. I typically upgrade my engines right out of the gate anymore and sell the stock engines...when I buy a new RC.

I typically run RB engines, but my pockets are typically deep.

It can, but there would need to be an adapter or special backplate conversion. Beyond that, I can not say where to get one. Try a google search or ask that specific question in the Engine section of this site.

Do not let the EZ start be the determining factor in engines for you. The convenience of the EZ start can be quite nice, but there are quite a few engines out there that make having the EZ start just so much dead weight. You can find a ton of engines out there that will outperform the TRX 3.3 and make you quite happy to not have the EZ start. Pull starts and bump start engines are quite diverse, and many outperform the 3.3.

I love the ez start though. It's so convenient, I don't think I would put a pull start in this truck. I get tired of the pull start on my mammoth.
