i recently bought a used jato from ebay. i think the motor is shot but dont really know how to tell. it is really hard to start and tune once it is tuned it just shuts off when it warms up. it has excessive gas coming from the exhaust but when i lean it, it absolutely wont stay running, although richening it causes it to get very hot and even more gas sprayes from exhaust. seems to have good compression though. would like to know how to tell when an engine is bad. also how difficult would it be to drop an axial .28 rr in the jato?

I can spot at least one problem with what you're doing; make sure the engine is up to full operating temp before you even start tuning it, unless you need to mess with the needles a little to make it start and stay running.

i do make a few passes with it before i start tuning, but as no matter what after i run it for about 3 or 4 minutes it just flat out dies as soon as i let off the throttle. and its really bad when its hot and humid outside. on a cooler day it fires right up but as soon as the engine warms up it dies. Also it the idle goes up and down kinda crazy sometims i turned the idle screw little by little both ways and nothing helped
