With the 2 speed stock transmission if you spin it by hand, it gets stuck at the same spot every revolution. By stuck I mean it becomes hard to turn but loosens up later until that same spot again.

Any binding is not good. The question is what is binding it. When you do this, is the tranny still in the truck? Are you also spinning the spur gear and clutch bell? Or is it just the tranny that you're turning? If the tranny isn't hooked to anything and you get that binding, you might have to pull the tranny apart. On mine, the screws that held the 2-speed assembly together inside the tranny weren't quite flush when installed. So when they turned, they'd bind on the tranny case a bit. You might want to check them. If you're turning it with the spur and clutch bell, look for a nicked tooth on either to see if that's it. Or a little piece of debris in one of the teeth.

The tranny is in the chassis, but not connected with anything. The only thing on the tranny is the slipper clutch assembly and the brakes.

Thanks for the response candyman. I tried all the screws one by one and it seems that the top screw for the brake caliper might have been to long and caused it to catch. Backing it out until the caliper became pretty loose seems to have solve the problem.

On second thought it only becomes free when I tilt back a certain way.

dbl check your brake assembly and make sure that the disk is sitting straight on the hub,if not it may be catching alittle on the side of the hub when you turn it causing it to catch on the brake pad, try setting the pad inline with the hub so when you turn it tranny that it turns true and not wobblely that may be the problem,
had the same problem with my dual disk kit
just something small to try

That was probably it, after disassembling the entire tranny only to find nothing. I put it together piece by piece checking to make sure nothing caught and everything was great until the brake. Looks like it get missaligned if not I don't tighten it down evenly.

thats lucky, it could have been much worse.
BTW, I'm getting a savage on xmas day lol, i just wondered how often the brakes need replacing and what they are made of, how effective they are etc...?

i can not comment on the stock brake set up because mine had the dual stainless kit and when adjusted a little to well then it will brake flip it on to its roof if your not careful

the stockers are a carbon disk, and metal pads, i run stock brakes with a hitech 645 servo, and i to can do endos on command, fun little trick at first but then it just starts killing your front diff, you have to learn to pulse the brakes so you dont flip. stock brakes are a bit weak, if you gonna upgrade the servos then youll be ok. if not then you may want to look into a better brake setup.

well I'm getting the limited edition and i think mine has the duel stainless steel kit aswell.

Love the dual brakes. I have the 4.6 and it came standard with the dual set. racin is right. Even just a touch tight and the truck will cartwheel. They seem to be holding up well. Even the pads seem to last a while.
