Hi Guys, I think I have been running too lean for a little while.
Pretty sure I have it sorted now, but do you think this engine is toast?

Still works, just looking for an opinion as there is lots of talk but few images on what things are or are not supposed to look like.

Engine is TRX 3.3 in a Revo.

Thanks

My 2.5 gets like that all the time. It is normal for me to have a dark burn surface on the piston head, but I run way rich. My oppion is if compression is good and it starts and runs, Screw it! Just get back to a good tune and keep on runing. When I take my mill apart and it looks like this I usually end up taking the piston out and using a pice of steel wool to clean up the head and piston head. I dont know if it does anything but it feels as if it does when I drive it afterward.

The feels like it is running better is psycological, I would imagine the best that would happen is no crud to come off and score the sleeve. The worst is removing material from the surface giving you a slightly less compression, but I doubt it would be enough to notice. You have a better chance of wearing the motor out than removing discoloration form the piston.

Thanks :)

How much fuel have you put through it?

Mine has about 7 litres, nearly 2 gallons.

I've got nearly 4 threw my 2.5 and its still kickin. I wouldnt sugest the steel wool teknique to any one unless you know what your doing. If you mess up you can round off the piston. I am the steel wool king, I'm always polishing my dirt bike and just little aluminum crap. Traxxas makes good mills IMO but there carbs are crap.

if your running it too lean it ma a a sandpaper feel or look to it. Yeah it looks shot to me you might as well drop a Sirio .23 or RB .23 in there well at least thats what I would tell my wife haha.
