I have my old T Maxx just sitting around in pieces and I was thinking about porting the TRX .15 motor. I found a post on this site where it took you to a website telling you how to do it. The guy that does it says that when you port the .15 it will hang with all the good race engines, is that true. It is a perfectly good motor and if it does give you a lot more power then I would like to try it, but if it dont then I dont want to mess it up considering it runs perfect as it sits. Any info would be great before I go and maybe ruin this motor.:cheerful:

SUp dude,

I know their's various websites with "Mod'd" info that ranges from good info to total dangerous crap. Even assuming that site you visited has dated info, I wouldn't trust anyone that would make such a vague and generalized statement as I quoted above. "ANy race engine"...lol. That's a pretty bold statement.

I have lots of experience "moding" regular combustion engines but none Mod'ing Glow engines. I have a bash buddy with years of MOd'ing experience and I've driven his Mod'd Trx .15 pro on various occasions. It's definitely faster through the entire power band then a standard .15 pro. It will hang with a Trx 2.5 but that's about it. He did full porting and Conrod ect. My 2.5 with SIrio Piston and sleeve and SIrio pipe will spank it on the top end. You can't beat displacement, a big bore or even better a properly Mod'd big bore is going to spank a Mod'd .15.....period.

It would be nice to squeeze some more power out of that .15. It's a good reliable engine that's easy to tune, especially compared to the 2.5 that can be a tunning nightmare. I'd just leave it alone as a reliable engine but more power to ya if ya Mod it. Just make sure you don't leave any metal shavings in the engine.

EDIT - Good info from the other poster. If you do mod it, TAKE IT EASY. You can always take more off but you can't add it...lol. Just don't expect the engine to hang with a SIrio .18 or even better a Big bore.

Peace

I did it to my old Pro .15 and in all honesty it made quite a noticeable difference. It really opened that thing up! It's definately worth doing. Just keep a steady hand....most importantly don't touch the chrome, always grind from the outside of the sleeve inward, but never go as far as the chrome plating.
If you take your time and do it right I promise you that you will not be dissapointed. It is definately worth doing.

A quality port job on the TRX Pro .15 will breath new life into the engine. It will produce more speed than it did.

As 30% suggested, there is a big difference between a quality job and a total screw up. Make certain you are willing to lose the engine if decide to try and port it yourself. Heck, that includes allowing someone else to port it...but not nearly as much if they are experienced at it.

msly, that is the post I referred to up top. I was just curious if it was worth doing. I have everything to do the job right, I just never done it before. I might just leave it be for now because it is a reliable engine for being such a pooch. Thanks for you guys info on this subject, you all probably just saved my .15.

P.S. My .15 thanks you too!
