Can any one help me?? I've had a few problems with my savage since i got it about 5 months ago. After about 5-10 minutes of running, the engine shuts off, also it seems to rev up on its own every now and then as if air is getting in somewhere.
Hsn is set to about 3 1/2 from closed, lsn is set to about the same.Apart from this i love my baby to bits!!!!

what should the needle settings be? I've had about 8-9 tanks through it? thanks for any help.

Will it start back up after it shuts off? I had this happen and the motor was getting hot and shuting off and it wouldnt start again until it cooled off. Is it really hard to get started the first time. Matt

3 1/2 turns sounds too lean to me.. i have only leaned out 1/2 turn from factory setting which i think I'm at 4 from closed..you should get a temp guage to see what your temps are it is much easier for tuning...btw i have almost 3 gallons run through my truck already and have only had it for a month

Maybe you should read your owners manual again, maybe a few more times, before giving out advise. Stock settings: hsn 3 1/2, msn 3 1/4, and lsn 3 1/2. Oh yeah, if you think the setting is 4 turns for stock and you have leaned your engine out 1/2 a turn, thus making 3 1/2 turns, how is him running 3 1/2 turns too lean????

Now for the problem at hand:
Hit your local radio shack and buy a temp gun, they have their infared temp guns for sale, $20+/-. See what kind of temps you are getting after you have been running before she cuts out. Get a pen and paper handy because I would advise taking a temp reading every minute or two before it cuts out and what the temp is when your engine dies. If your temp is in the 300 range then you'll need to richen up, if the temp in in the high 100s then you need to lean out.

Kinda obvious question, but have you tried adjusting your idle?

my appologies, i was thinking of my hyper 8 port settings and mixed them up with the stock engine...it's good to have you smart people here..becuase idiots like me can really mess things up

Thanks for the advice chaps! MATT- ye the engine is hard to start first time, especially when the weather is cold, once its started though it seems to be ok,it starts ok after it shuts off but the heat sink is extremely hot! (dont have a temp gun) Dyou still have problems with yours shutting off?

El PIRATA-sounds like a plan dude! will have to get a temp gun,the only needles I've adjusted are-hs and ls others are as stock, would you advise adjusting the idle setting??

DEADBODY-i live in the u.k mate,it gets dark here by the time I'm home from work so i only get to play with my savage at weekends which is a nightmare!!

If she will not stay running, it will not hurt to make a slight adjustment to the idle. That was actually my first thought on how to fix your problems but if your engine runs for 10 minutes then dies, the idles may not be the problem. Like I said it's worth a shot. Maybe it'll be one of those thing you can't explain why but you just adjust the idle and it works like a dream from there.
