I'm upgrading from my Acme Condor & considering a Savage X 4.6 (or a Pulse/Trophy).

I'm looking for performance but as I'm a beginner, something that is cheap/easy to maintain too. I don't mind tinkering, but don't wanna spend hours & hours maintaining it.

Is this a good choice?

Thanks :)

The savage is a tried and tested basher platform, When you first buy it you have to shim the diffs, and follow the heat cycle engine break-in method. The savage holds up to tons of abuse. Make sure you change air filters regularly and keep it clean, and its a hard beast to break.

I personally havent shimmed my diffs and I've been running for going on 3 gallons now. Havent had any drivetrain issues or anything so far.. I think the shimming of the diffs was taken care of on the x4.6 savages. I personally have confidence in my diffs to last another gallon and a half with no issues.

What kind of regular maintenance does the Savage X 4.6 need (newbie)?

Hit and miss. My front diff was shimmed, but not the rear. My Flux needed both diffs shimmed.

Same as any other nitro, clean it from time to time, empty the tank when you're done.

This is what i do [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_5mWvWMUHc"]Nitro Maintenance - YouTube[/ame]

Sort of end up talking about my wheels lol but it does go into the maintenance that i do.

Don't forget the After Run Oil when you're through running for the day.

How hard is the 3 speed conversion kit to build/fit? Something a newbie could do?

What's the best glow plug for the Savage X 4.6? UK weather, so never particularly hot or cold..

Probably. I've never done it but it shouldnt be too hard. Look at the manual. The savage is a hard to beat truck. I live mine and i would buy another if i could. Very durable. Stock form is even as tough as nails
