I will but need to wait 6 months due to contracts. I use a Mac and look forward to the day I can rid myself of anything windows, blackberry or palm based!

sorry IB.. guess I was a bit ignorant to the level of awareness of the product.

Thanks for the link Ben!

I'm pretty interested. My verizon contract is up in June as well so the timing is perfect. I've been kind of wanting an Ipod for a couple years but havn't ponied up for one. This seems like the perfect solution.. The thing has a "real" web browser.. thats freakin awesome!

yeah, like the monkey said, Cingular only. Steve Jobs said their goal was 1% of market share by the end of '08. That's like 10M phones. wow!

Steve Jobs also likes to throw first gen products out on the shelves wheather they work or not. I will NEVER purchase another first gen Apple product- they are just too glitchy.

After a few months and the hype I might try to find a good deal on one, simply because in my profession I need something like that, and they offer a really nice hard case already that I would really need. i spend 90 percent of my day 50-100 feet off the ground and have to keep my phone on hand for client needs. I have lost more than one to put it shortly.

To bad, I'm on Verizon and have no desire to switch. :\

These came out here a while ago with a much trumpeted fanfare from Apple about how it re-writes the rule book on mobile phones blah blah blah....I checked the spec of it against my SonyEriksson to find that it did nothin extra that I would want or has a practical use. Theres already a Nokia out, that kicks it into touch anyway. (and the nokia is much better looking)

I like my samsung.....does all the same crap.....and I can surf from the fone or through my router for faster connection......and it's alot cheaper than another Iproduct......

Window's based garbage! The windows based machines are terrible, as they are just like the pc, they lock up and crash all the freakin time. Worse than crackberry!

I've heard that ol tune of Macs never go down for too long...I have a few friends in the graphic / media field and they all say it's not true, while they don't do it as often as PCs it still occurs....I personally do not have the issues most PC users complain about....but I don't do every stinking update that windows shoves at me until I find a good reason to....I run ZERO anti virus software on my home PC and laptop....I do not get spyware issues and my PC of almost 8 years ran very smoothly until about a month ago......windows requires a bit more knowledge to use with 3rd party software and that is where most issues come from....windows vista is more like the mac platform in that it has no registry and the 3rd party software isn't dependent on interacting w/ the OS as much (similar to mac).....you say tomatoe, I say XB8 forever ya long fist hating BEOTCH!!!!!

Same here pretty much. No problems on my windows machines, zero anti-virus, ect. Rarely have a problem.

Vista does in fact have a registry though. I personally love the registry...it allows for so many cool little 'hacks' haha.

Tweak is 8000% right about apple products being way too buggy when they first come out. My bud went through three macbook pro's before he got one that worked right. Also, anyone recall how the macbooks made "mooing" noises when they came out? Oh, and now, the batteries on the 17" Macbook Pro's are getting all bloated up literally. That being said, apple is ALWAYS willing to make it right and replace your 1st gen POS for something that works right.

Windows mobile is not junk. I've owned several windows mobile products through the years, and they're unbeatable. Much more reliable than XP/their other OS'es. I can't find a single fault to windows mobile.

The iPhone is complete and utter junk. Closed platform OS? WTF APPLE?! How on earth can a closed platform OS compete with an open platform OS? (Windows Mobile). For those of you who don't know what this means, it means that if you want a program for your precious little iPhone, you're gonna have to buy it from apple. This means horrible media support, forget about divx folks...not without converting it first. Yeah, sure it's got some nice HARDWARE features, but the closed-platform OS absolutely kills it.
Also, anyone hear how the cingular techs testing it are reporting 40 minutes battery life? HA! I'll take my windows mobile device with 12 hours battery life when watching movies over that iGarbage any day.

Now, will the iPhone be a success? You betcha. Why? Because at least 1/4 of americans are morons, or simply want "the coolest phone" and will use it for nothing more than a phone. For us power users out there, the iPhone is one of the worst cell phones ever.

Any windows mobile device > iPhone

I'll disagree with your comments about windows mobile. three guys I work with had (key word) windows mobile devices and they were constantly having to reset them. They all got fed up after trying different machines and moved on. I yet to have one issue with my Macbook, I've never had to use force quit and it's NEVER crashed. Can't say that with my windows machines. You're also leaving out that Dell, HP, Sony and a couple others all had issues with batteries.

Oh I almost forgot about the pos I had that ran on windows mobile, it was such a joke, but it does serve as a rather nice looking paperweight now.

Probably because they didn't know how to end their programs, so their ram was constantly being eaten. I suppose that's a disadvantage you could say, but I personally like being able to keep them open, and then choose if I want to end them... I'd be really mad if I was reading an email in outlook, pressed x to go to my I'm, and find out it closed outlook completely...

And the battery issues, it's not like apple's didn't suffer from them too... They were batteries made by sony. Not made by HP, or dell, or gatway, or ect... They were used in those notebooks because no one makes their own parts. For instance:

iPod- made by Foxconn
Macbook- made by Asus
Macbook Pro- Made by Foxconn
and the iPhone is made by foxconn too I believe.

My new thinkpad I ordered has a screen from samsung or LG, keyboard from Chicony, ALPS, or NMB. Only thing made by lenovo is the casing really.

But I'm sure you know that pc companies use different brand parts and such jetmech. I was stating it for those who don't really.

if Iphone works like Itunes, NO WAY will I buy this. Itunes blows ass. I've had more problems with it than any other software out there..

I really have tried biting my tongue on this debate, but I feel I need to weigh in from the perspective of someone that has seen and owned more mobile phones throughout my telecom career than many people will own in a lifetime.

First, the Blackberry has been and probably will continue to be designed as a mobile DATA device first, a voice device second. I don't care what network it's on, be it Sprint, Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile or any other, RIM has admitted to designing their devices as a data device first and voice as a secondary consideration. The primary complaint I received from clients with Blackberry generally revolved around application integration. If the had an application they wanted to make mobile, it generally took some considerable effort to make it that way. I am in no way an IT guru, so I cannot say with any certainty just how difficult it may be, but the clients I had that had issues generally pointed to that. Now, with that in mind, if a client had Blackberry and were happy with it, chances were that the only hope I had of getting that client was to offer a newer Blackberry. Folks either love or hate them.

Second, sorry Jet, but Windows Mobile is a very stable OS for mobile devices, the issue is the hardware that is running it. Verizon launched an early device of Windows Mobile before Sprint did when I was at Sprint and a key client I was courting went with them simply because VZW had the device. Sprint was in testing with the PPC 6700 at the time, but it hadn't passed acceptance testing yet, so we could not offer it. Four or so months later this client is calling me asking if the PPC was being out and I said yes. The question the client asked was, what OS is being run and I said Windows Mobile. He hesitated because that is what VZW was running and the devices were coming back to him buggy and locking up. Let him trial a few and within three weeks I had the account. Turns out it wasn't the OS, but the device (and I apologize, my memory fails me as to what it was) but the culprit ended up being the processor. I'm not discounting that people have had issues with Windows Mobile, but in my experience the difficulty revolves around the hardware and its shortcomings.

Bottom line is, people in general are looking for all the wireless carriers to provide land line like service anywhere and everywhere and now, they want broadband access. The reality is, that is not going to happen. Wireless carriers are beholden to the same laws of physics as radio and the like. When the rubber hits the road, it's still a RADIO signal and it will behave like a radio signal. Additionally, the broadband experience an individual will have will depend on the processing speed of the device using it. Generally speaking, most mobile device processors are in the 500MhZ range. Compare that with laptops and desktops and you'll see a huge disparity. Manufacturers struggle with the balance of speed over batter life. Add to that that the higher the processing speed, the hotter it gets and you'll see the limitations.

As for the iPhone, I'm just curious to see how it does and what people think. It's clearly not intended for people like me, but for the younger set who have mastered the whole MP3 scene, LOL!

Lessen, if you end up getting one, let us know what you think.

...Generally speaking, most mobile device processors are in the 500MhZ range. ...

Really? I thought for the WinMo phones, it was closer to 300mhz or so. But, I haven't exactly been in the market for a new WinMo device since a little over a year ago...
