I logged onto RR and saw this on the home page and thought I might read it. It's a growing problem. I don't really ride a bike, but I do have a dirtbike and even if I'm starting it up to keep the sparkplug from fouling I put on a helmet, long pants, a chest protector and gloves. Although some of you could argue its dumb to wear a helmet, if you read what the mom says, it makes you second guess. So if you go out to ride you bike/skateboard/scooter/dirtbike/motorcycles, even you older people should give it a second thought(Especially people on Motorcycles).

The laws are different here in NYC.
Children under 14 must wear a helmet when riding a bike. It's manditory on rollerblades and skateboards too. It's the law.
There is a helmet law on all motorcycles too.

yea when I ride a bike I dont wear a helmet. Also when I snowboard I dont wear one... I know I should but I dont. I am sure they save tons of lives but I guess where a helmet is like wearing a seatbelt in a car... Some people dont want to use them (I always where a seatbelt, But a helmet on a pedal bike could be pushing it.)

I wont wear a helmet when I'm skateboarding around the city or just doing tricks with my friends, but DEFINITALLY at the skatepark. I once smacked my head on the ground hard at Vert park and I was really glad I had a helmet on.

Florida's retarded...we don't require a helmet on anything, they recently passed a law that said bikers don't have to wear helmets on motorcycles. Just goes to show you how good Florida is

Whenever I'm on the ski hill wether it be skiing or snoboarding I have a helmet on. I"m just too crazy that I need one. I've been known to bust the occasional backflip now and again. Lets just say I've been knocked out more then a few times, even with the brain bucket on.

When I ride my 4 wheeler Ill wear one 60% of the time. If I'm gonna be going fast or doing jumps Ill wear one for sure, but if I'm just riding to the neighbors or bummin around I wont. My dirtbike I always wear one though. I never used to when I rode flatland (Bmx Bike), I got lucky though I never spilled bad. All my concussions (6) have been in sports..lol..

If I owned a chopper or something I dunno if Id wear a helmet. If your gonna wipe out on that, your pretty much done or in a state ya'd wanna be done anyway. I think there SHOULDNT be laws on this. Its your own life your risking, so it should be up to the person.

I don't think there should be laws for adults, but I believe for minors...we do stupid stuff all that time!

When I ride my 4 wheeler I wear my helmet untill I get to the trailhead and then after that I ditch it for the rest of the time. With that said I must explain what I do. I do alot of deep mud running and things of that nature with trucks when I am on my quad and I am rarely over about 10 mph on the quad. Now when I snowmobile I always have a helmet on. My opinion is if you don't have a helmet on when riding a motorcycle on the street you are stupid. Too much can happen to quickly. I know I should always wear my helmet when I am 4 wheeling but I don't and that is my decision but I am just putzing and not going 25 plus mph. just my 0.02cents worth

Yeah for minors there should defiantly be laws for helmets. Here in Mn. now its legal for them little scooters to be on the road legally. And you only have to be 12 years old! No classes no nothing. So now the streets are overwhelmed with these kids on scooters. Last year there wasn't as many deaths as I thought there would be, but there was alot. Stupidest law I think I've ever heard.

If you wipe out on your motorcycle a mojority of the time your dead already, and a helmet wouldnt do much. Like I said if I had a chopper or something I probably would wear a helmet to often, but I also wouldnt go on long trips or high speeds with a chopper either. Them are meant to be driven slow so ya can pimp it.. :) But if I was going across country on a Harley or a Crotch rocket, I probably would. (majority of the reason would still be because of wind and bugs in the face.)

I would rather look stupid and wear a helmet while I'm riding my bike then to have to be a part of the "Helmet Patrol" That I see cruzing the mall. Watching them falling over and bumping into poop all the time due to previous brain damage isn't the way I want to live my life.

I know many riders that thanked their helmet for saving their lives. There is a reason why it is a law in many states, because they work. The last bad crash my brother had he slid over 100 feet on the pavement, and his helmet ground down past the carbon fiber layer. If it wasn't for his helmet that would have been his skull.

If you think you can't get hurt going 10-15 mph on a choppr think again. It's not about you falling off the bike, it's about some knuckle head driver in a car not paying attention pulling a nice turn right into you.

For sure a helmet is the way to go. Years ago I hit the pavement at 50+ miles per hour on my bike. I landed headfirst and slid down the road and was stopped only after my head hit the curb. The helmet was destroyed but the head was fine, I ended up with some shoulder injuries but I consider myself lucky to not have sub stained more serious injuries. If I hadn’t been wearing the helmet I would hate to think what state I would be in now. Just my 2 cents.

I like the Google ad at the bottom of the article for an attorney's office...
