Interesting Illusion

I took this photo and had to look at it a few times.
The illusion it gives is it looks like there is a step under the dog but the floor is flat.

I guess my perception is odd, All I see is what appears to be baseboard recesses and a hall that opens up into a room.

But, I could never see those images in the computer generated 3-D pictures either, go figure.
