I'm getting ready to install my new HPI .25 into my Savage. But I need to know a few things. First, Are the new .25 engines new in the box from HPI tuned like they are on the RTR trucks because it doesn't look like it.. Also, do I have to re seal the backing plate or was that problem resolved from the factory.. Any help would be appreciated,, thanks. in advance. :tank:

Check the engines manual for the factory settings and check them. As for the backplate! When in doubt, re-loctite it!

Agreed with dinkin here re-loctite it just as a precaution. It should come with the needles set best for break in but definitely check the manual.

Thanks. guys. Gotta go get some red lock tite then before I put it in.. I dont trust the blue stuff much.. Not sure if I should use red on the roto start too or not It might be a pain if I have to remove it to get to the one way bearing or switch back to the pull start..

3 turns from closed on the LSN and 4.5 turns from closed on the HSN, Idle screw should be set at 2mm (about the same thickness as a credit card)....these are factory settings for the Nitro Star S-25 engine, also is a good idea to double check the back plate, Red lock tite on the back plate screws and Blue lock tite on the roto start plate screws.....DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the roto start plate screws as they are very easy to strip the holes!

The backplate screws in my SS were never locktited, I checked before putting the engine in my truck, I'd say definately check them, and re-locktite them.

Well, I went to reseal the backplate and the screws were not budging and there was evidence of red locktite on the pullstart and somewhat on the backplate screws so I just installed the rotostart and put the engine in.. I'm guessing that HPI got the factory to finally seal them right the first time. Ill let you know if I come across any problems during or after break in.. Thanks again.. :tank:

Sorry for jumping in on the thread but need help. Just broke in the Savage and went to take it out tonight. When i tried to start it she spun a few times then the roto start spun freely without the motor. Came home and pulled it apart and there is a really hard spot when turning the motor with the head off what do you think thanks for the help

If the roto start spins freely without turning the motor you probably wasted your one way bearing. Not sure what to make of the hard resistance in the motor unless its a New motor ,when new they sometimes are hard to turn and that would cause you to wear out a one way bearing. once you fix the one way , try loosening your glowplug to reduce compression while starting and once the engine starts tighten the glow plug back up that should help..
