Just got back from a trip to Hong Kong, whilst I was at the RC bend of stores in Kwong Wah district, I happened to come accross the Inferno VE. I have been intrigued by the brushless scene (having an upgraded Erevo courtesy of our own Sweet Diesel).

Saw the Inferno VE:

Pics are accurate, let me know if others want me to post pics.

I quickly googled the price here in the US and found out it is selling for $449 at amain and $418 at Kyosho America. I was able to get it for $300 and bought BY Energy (never heard of them) Lithium packs 4200 mah 7.4v 35c for $35 each.

I am going to upgrade the radio, do you think I need to upgrade the servos? How fast with the stock motor do you think I will be able to go?

Curious on people's comments.

Looks like a pretty nice set-up. For that price you really can't beat it. The speed will depend on gearing, the KVA rating of the motor (2040 KV) and how much voltage you put in to it. But with a 4s I am betting you can get in to the 45mph range. That is just a very rough guess too. Sweet diesel I am sure would be able to give you a better idea. I am not sure I dig the piano wire for a steering linkage and the servo arm...looks pretty weak to me I would find a way to upgrade that for sure. Second thing is the lack of mechanical brakes. There is no way of setting your front/rear brake bias that I can see. Other than that not a bad score.

GOod point, I didnt notice the piano wire. Any idea on the servos? I can't tell if the stock will do the trick for now. Apparently the stock is a high torque servo, it is HIGH TORQUE SERVO KS102BK but I can't find the specs on it. Anybody have it on their rig, I'm sure most ready sets have it.

The servo looks like a Hitec rebadged to me.... If it works well, and I think it will be fine until it dies. Yes, ditch the cheap steering linkage and the stock radio. Both are worthless on that rig. It's Mp7.5 based, so most of those nitro counterparts will fit it. You'll love it I think. Kyosho makes a great product, just be sure to have the manual handy when maintaining it. There are a lot of small details that even experienced people will miss. They can make your next race or bash very miserable if you miss them. I could work on all my other cars blindfolded without mistakes. The ST-RR I have takes a little more time and patience to setup properly. For the servo linkage, just add an aluminum servo horn and an adjustable turn buckle to replace what Kyosho put on there. 3 dollars more @ their cost, they could have put what the nitros come with! Ridiculous. No high performance car should have that crap on steering duty! It's at a bad angle too, big no-no, causes performace issues. Steering linkages must be 100% square and level to operate properly. Find a Spektrum or some other 2.4ghz or good qual;ity FM radio.

You are looking at 35-40 mph with that system which is plenty. As the others have already said, ditch the piano wire steering and go pick up a steering link from another 1/8 buggy. Any decent hobby shop should be able to source you one that will fit. If you can't find one, pm me and I have a few spares I'll hook you up with. You'll need to drill the hole a little bigger (3mm) on the steering arm to fit the new link.May have to use a few washers/spacers to get it working 100% as Scrogg mentioned.

The MP7.5 was one of my first buggies and it's a decent buggy. Older tech but for bashing it will be fine. Pick up one of the SS screw kits from Robmob. Either one of the Kanai III or MP777 kits will work with your rig.
