i have a buddy who swears on k/n but i told him how course they
were but he said they are the best i told him about motor saver but he could not be turned so is k/n descent or is he just fickle and stuck on the k/n name??:wedgie:

There was a great post a long while back describing K&N filters and why not to use them. If I remember correctly WoodiE was the one who posted it. I wish I could find that. :( Either way why take a chance on something that could work vs. something that is specifically made for RC applications. It's not like Motor Saver filters are ungodly priced. Some people like to learn the hard way.

No problem. That's why I'm here...to try and prevent a lot of this...

thanks guys ill show that to him see if i can save his 400-450 dollar sirio .27 ya thats right he wants to put a k/n on this beautiful poor unsuspecting engine. so maybe i can save this poor victim of k/n fever. main effects of k/n fever you want extra pistons and sleeves you wallet is alot lighter and your head hurts alot for some strange reason. lol thanks guys:doh: :breakdown

Here's my take on K&N ...

When used on a 1:1, it does let more air run through it BUT now they encourage you to use the dust cover with it. That in itself should raise a flag. Another thing is with the reusing method. K&N filters have to be reoiled once cleaned. The problem with this is the reoiling. Too much oil will cause the MAF sensor to read all wrong in a computer controlled engine and give a false tuning. On a carb engine, it causes varnish and what's called "blow by" becuase of too much lubrication.

On an R/C, you're constantly cleaning your filter so you're also oiling the filter, which should be done anyway. On a K&N, the gauze has larger pores so more oil will go through along with the dirt trapped in the oil. The thing is that on a 1:1 the pores are large but on our r/c's, they're still just as large, not scaled down to size for the r/c. Dirt and varnish will kill your engine more sooner than later.

K&N filters look cool.

That's it.

I guess if you can afford to be constantly replacing $200 engines just to look cool, then have at it. I'll keep my MotorSaver.
