I'm so Disgusted.t-maxxx guru wanted!!!

So i orders a whole bunch of parts of ebay and i got them today. I got a whole new steering assembly for my maxx and i put it on and its doing the same thing. The wheels turn when you go left right left right fast. They turn perfect. But when i stop turning it, they go to the left. Then i have to turn the wheel on the remote to move the servo, wich moves the rod on the steering assembly then they straighten out and stay straight. Then i start moving it rapidly, and it does the same thing. i messed with the steering trim and still the same thing. I know it is not a servo problem, or servo saver problem becuase i got a new servo saver. The only thing i think it could be is the right steering knuckle. The left one moves with out any friction, and when i turn it, it goes back to center position, the left one however, when i turn it, it does not go back. I hope that is what the problem is. I have new steering knuckles coming in the mail. If its not that then i give up. And one more thing, i was so happy when i got my traxxas big bores, i filled them up, got all the air bubbles out, and they worked fine in my hand, i put them on my truck and they dont keep the truck up, the truck sinks about an inch and a half. I am so disgusted any help, or tips would be great. Thanks Everyone at RCNT.

Oh i forgot to add, when i put the truck on the ground and push it, and turn the wheels they dont turn hardly at all, only a little bit.

anyway you can post some pics of your steering and knuckles?

I can't tonight and i have the right steering knuckle off. the little balls in there seem to be sticking.

erm i has a similar problem with my TC i found if you losen the screws it went back to normal it was the fact that i over tightened, this is my sujestion but not sure if it will help you

The pillow ball screws. You reach them with an Allen wrench through the wheel spokes. 2 sizes, one for camber and the other to adjust the play without making them sloppy.

Rolex, is it the screws that have the blue cover over them, on the steering knuckles?

Yes, you access them from the outside of the steering knuckles. For me it's easier to take off the wheel to get to them. I have a Revo and you have to remove a blue plug to get to them........not sure how the Maxx is set up. I can take a picture of my Revo if it'll help you out, let me know.

I understand where and what they are, but i have the right knuckle off, and the balls dont move freely, like the left one does.

Bummpidy Bump Bump

Also wich is the one that adjusts the camber and what 1 adjusts the slop? Top or Bottom??

This is what your steering knuckle should look like. From what I could see, the TMaxx and Revo have the same knuckle.

You should have a tool that came with the truck that looks like this

Use that funky little end to loosen the retaining nut (it's plastic and you'll have to remove the blue plug to get to it). This will allow your pillow ball to move freely. Not too loose on the retaining screw or it might work itself all the way out.

You can download exploded views of your truck on Traxxas.com, they helped me out considerably when troubleshooting problems.
I don't have an answer for the camber adjustments. I always screw my pillow balls in until the last thread is even with the A-arm hole.

Sorry for the crappy quality of the pics, had to use my cell phone, digital camera has dead batteries.

Thanks Mr.clean. for taking them pictures and explaining this all to me. I think i know all i need to know to get it up and running again. Thanks.

No problem, always glad to help. I figured the pics would make it easier for both us....LOL. I'm not as good at explaining things with words as with pics, visuals are always better. Good luck man.

Could that also be the problem why i put it on the ground, give it a push, and turn and they only turn a little bit, or is that in the steering assembley do you think?

I wish I was more familiar with the TMaxx. I had a similar problem with my Revo and it was the rear brake that was binding up. You could try picking up the rear end and rolling on just the front wheels, see how well they turn and then do the same for rear wheels. That might help isolate where the problem is a little anyway. We need a TMaxx guru!

no no no lol i mean i give the whole truck a push and turn the wheels with the remote like left right and they only turn 1/4 of the way there suppose too.

Ah, now I understand. Does the TMaxx use dual steering servos?

Disconnect the steering arms and the shock absorbers since you are not familiar with this. You will be able to feel the suspension getting stiff as well as the steering when the pillow balls are too tight. When everything moves freely without feeling sloppy, reconnect your shocks and steering, and you're good to go.
When you've done it once, you'll know what to look for the next time without taking anything apart.
