hi all I'm geting mky savage 21 rtr it has 12 tanks of fuel..... any of you have had this truck ? if so what hop-ups did you do? thanks  :spit:

Thats what i started with.. I say you do th 4 spider diff mod, throttle mod, and the cam style servo saver along with a high torque servo for the steering.. That will change the trucks perormance a lot..!

how much are the 4 spider diff mod??? and what servo do you thank i should have...

4 spider mod is like $10 or less I think. All of the newer kits come with the 4 spider mod and the cam servo saver. But i take it you bought it used. The common steering servo for a savage is the Hitec 645.

yea I seen the upgraded diff kits for $10 each ( you need two for front and rear).. and I think the 645 may be discontinued but I amy be wrong.. I had it and it worked well .. You have to do the cam style servo saver and the servo at the same time.. otherwize you wont see any improvment. If you put a cam style in on your stock servo, it wont have the power to turn it, and if you put a stronger servo in with the stock saver, the saver will be saving and not turning.. lol if that makes sence..

can't wait to get it here ....lol is it faster then a stock t-maxx 2.5 ?

I bet the savage 21 goes close to 25-30 mph. and then the t-maxx with the 2.5 engine is probably at least 25 mph.

Both of these trucks are rated to go 40mph out of the box. Granted traxxas also says the Nitro 4-poop goes 60mph out of the box. Id go with the savage being quicker.

Spy didnt me and you do a trade a while back for a savage 21?? I'm pretty sure we did. wasn't it the 2-Rc10Gts for the Savage .21? can't remember.. But I'm about 90% posotive.

As soon as my 4.6 is broken in and running well, I will radar clock it. I am hoping over 40 mph. Box says 44 mph, but I know they probably lean it out so much that the engine only lasts a little bit to get that claimed speed.
my brother's Nitro MT with Fantom FR15 hit an honest 43 mph, but it took a whole lot of street to get there!

4u2nv we did trade but it didnt run that well..... and at that time i didnt know how to tune motor that well...

Tmaxx is "quicker" . It's lighter and faster off the line.
Savage is faster on long runs than a maxx but a well driven max will beat a well driven savage.
(till the maxx breaks)

if you don't really want to mess with doing the spider mod yourself just buy 2 new differentials off e-bay they can be picked up pretty cheap, but they you should put diff oil in them and remove all of the grease, so you might as well do it your self I guess, then you know how to take it apart on your own

Other things you may do.... I don't know how stock your truck is, so here goes.

If your wheels are stock, change them hpi gt5 wheels are bad about spinning the hexes out of them. read up on some threads about removing tires if they're stock. it can be a pain, so take your time.

With the tires off run two or three layers of duct tape on the inside of the TIRES. This will stiffen them up and make them less prone to "ballooning" (when you cut into a turn and the tire swells up to twice its normal size due to the geforce) It will save your tires in the long run. When you're there, replace the foams too with firmer ones.
If you do end up changing the wheels, I'd recommend RPM wide offset wheels, they really help it against rollovers.

Secondly I'd get a rotostart for it, the savage 21 comes stock with a pull start and that engine can become a PITA to turn over. Rotostarts are well worth the money, just be careful with running it too long. Remember 5 seconds at a time.

check the gear mesh and make sure it isn't too tight/too loose. You don't want to end your fun quickly by burning up the spur gear.

Third, a hump pack and failsafe is a must for that truck. The failsafe protects your investment, while the hump pack keeps you running longer and gives you better response out of your radio.

The spider mod and cam-type servo saver is definitly in the works for your new truck. They even include them free in the 25 models.

If you're planning to bash, I'd also recommend a new PROLINE body, they are very thick and really help to protect what you have (and you can paint it uniquely)

If the springs are stock, you should change them out to the black, silver, or purple springs to stiffen it up, and reduce body roll.

If they're not there already, put about four wire ties on the head of the engine to protect it if your head when/if you roll it over. Especially on cement.

You may want to also take the time to loctite every bolt that goes into metal. It helps them from backing out from vibrations, jumping, ect. and reduces radio interference.

When you do all of these things, you will find yourself not needing to work on your truck very often. Just keep it oiled and all the bolts tight and that truck will treat you good. And, DON'T FORGET keep it clean and use that After Run Oil.

i picked up a savage 21 and have done the following

HPI nitro star S-25
Motor Saver ail filter
Fuel filter
HPI graphite (carbon fiber) TVP's
Proline big joes 40 series
Proline Velocity 6 40 series
4 spider mod
Tsais Custom Side Pipe Pro
Savage 25 fuel tank
HPI 3 shoe clutch
Purple stiff springs
and thats mainly all the big stuff, probably forgetting some

but i plan on doing

HPI cam type servo saver
Hitec 645MG for steering
5 cell hump pack
and maybe later on a surefire .32 or collari .30
