if i put a new heatsink head on my savage .21, would i have too retune anything? it is really bented out of shape and i seen this headsink head at my lhs that looks bling bling!
I wouldn't think you would have to re tune, so long as it is shimmed about the same as the old head..........ofcoarse you may want to see what some of the more experienced people have to say on this one.
Is it bling, or better and a new stock head? A buddy of mine on here makes custom heads, here's his post, https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/showthread/t-8751.html I run an oversized one on my Picco 26 and the temps dropped by 20 degrees with the same tuning. So, I leaned it out till the temps picked back up, and the power increase was unbelievable. I tune for perfomance, so take it as you will. Also, the head I'm running is pretty big and has alot more cooling surface so that answers that question.
The short version of all that is: if the new head cools better than the old one, you might have to lean it a tad to get the engine back up to operating temp. A lean run is a cycle where the engine heats up and causes the oil to thermally break down, which causes the engine to heat up, and a larger % of oil to break down, and so on till your mill cooks. As long as you keep the temps to within the reccomended range, you should be ok.
