Hey, I have had my Savage SS with the new .25 motor for about a month now and i have run about 1 and 1/2 gallons of fuel thru and I have both good and bad times with my truck. At this point, I can not get the truck to say running at idle. If I keep tapping the throttle, it will stay running (most of the time). Basides that, the truck runs like hell. Everyone that see's the truck run can't believe how badass it is, except it wont idle. Can anyone help?

i know how you feel, i had the same problem with a recent car of mine which was a duratrax, make sure your gas is new, dont have old gas in truck or it can stop the car, make sure the glow plug is hot and maybe do a clean down on your engine, you may have some grass or a piece of pebble inside the engine, hope that helps, check your radio see if the battiers are recently new:hi:

Is it blowing raw fuel out the exhaust? It sounds like the lsn may be a little too rich. Have you tried leaning the low speed needle just a bit?

Any more info you could give would help us to help you figureout what is wrong. If you have or have access to a temp gun find out what temp it is running at.

if you are having idling problems that means you have to adjust the idle screw... turn it clock wise while applying the brake... it is when brake is apply the truck shouldn't die, if it does turn the idle screw some more... not so much, but do little increments

If it runs fine until you let off the throttle or apply the brake, I'm gonna agree with TRD and adjust the idle screw. It's too low.

Have you replaced the glow plug with a medium or hot plug??

If you have ran 1 and 1/2 gallons through on the same plug I'll suggest you replace it.

jp_tru,

At this point, it's mostly a guess as to what the problem is. We really need more information. Maybe give a better description of exactly what the engine is doing at both idle and normal rpm speeds.

Did you have any issues with the backplate screws comming loose? This is a common problem these days on the new .25 engines (HPI didn't threak lock the back plate screws). You would think that it might happen before you hit the 1.5 gallon mark, but if the backplate is loose, that would let pressure leak out of the system and would result in low fuel pressure to the carb (would effect idle and the rest of the engine too).

Good Luck,
Rob

TRD, Mugen-racer, he said it was also running like hell, which would lead me to believe it is more than just turning the idle up. However RobH brings up a very good point, an air leak will cause a lot of problems like you are having, poor idling, running like hell, the back plate would be a very good place to check, especially since this is an already known problem area.

I think, in this instance, by "hell" he means good. If you read the next sentence, he talks about how badass people think it is...Just MHO.

Jason, you just might be right. It's just I never heard of anyone using "hell" to describe a good running truck. So jo_tru, have you found the problem?

Curious to know what the problem might be. I know what you mean NCN. I thought he meant it was running horrible too, but then I re-read it and he stated that people were impressed at how awesome the truck ran. Could also check the fuel lines and the exhaust line too. Keep us posted.

I know that the problem is not the idle set screw. And yes i did mean that the truck runs great when not at idle. If i come to a stop, it will only run for about 3 seconds before stalling. I have checked all of my fuel lines and the backplate has been fixed since i built the truck. Iam thinking that my LSN is too lean and also it could be my rubber gasket by the header. It is torn a little and it is letting some gas come out at the begening of the header. I am going to replace the part and i will keep you posted on whats going on. Thanks for the replys. :)
